Why is it still possible to destroy the nuke(the bomb itself?
To give the other side a chance of shooting it down to defend themselves

My complaint is not about shooting down a plane with a nuke, but about destroying the bomb itself. It’s just stupid, because your plane is intact and can fly safely
The game doesn’t distinguish between whether a bomb is in a dropped state, or still attached to the plane.
If it exists, it can be damaged and destroyed. Which is a good thing.
The nukes are the same, just with much lower TNT capacity, meaning almost no collateral/secondary damage when destroyed.

It wouldn’t explode so you weren’t denied a nuke unfairly, and the need to post up the evidence from others just shooting it on the runway further makes my point.
It won’t explode, and it’s just ‘broken’ so it’s removed.
How is that GOOD?! I nuked, I flew to the battlefield, I didn’t get shot down, I just got hit with one bullet in the bomb, which made it disappear and now I have a useless airplane and 0 revival points. That’s AWESOME! Now that’s COOL!
Its good because it gives the enemy a chance at defending themselves.
So why does it have to be that way? What’s the point? If that nuke can’t even always be refilled? Doesn’t that mean it’s just a regular bomb that has had its ability to explode from a hit disabled, so it just disappears and due to other problems it can’t always be replenished?

This is a different video game.
Its pretty close to balanced how it is, doesn’t really need to be much easier by not even having to drop it.

Bombs in the game after a patch became physical, so that they can be detonated by simply hitting them (even inside the plane if a shell/bullet penetrates through the plane). And even in real life, a nuke doesn’t detonate like, well, a nuclear bomb, simply from getting hit by bullets/rounds, it must be activated first. So honestly, Gaijin really can’t be blamed here, since they unintentionally just made it more realistic (tho if it was very realistic, the plane crew would slowly die from radiation poisoning, since it still contains radioactive materials).

More specifically (for the implosion-type devices in game) the nuke must have the proximity fuse trigger the detonation sequence for the primary explosives to correctly initiate the chain reaction. (There is more to explain as to why a nuke has a proximity fuse instead of an impact fuse but it’s not really relevant to this)
The USA tested failure modes of their more modern nuclear devices back in the late fifties; where only one detonator out of the multiple required triggered correctly and the result was a detonation much smaller than anticipated. A large detonation with a fairly high yield relative to the explosive mass of the traditional explosives inside the bomb occurred, but the full power of the weapon was not unleashed at all. (Fun fact, the largest explosion done for a film actually had higher explosive yield relative to these tests)
In that case, it may actually be most realistic to have a nuke that gets shot midair act like a trio of 5000kg FAB-5000s going off all at once. Still explodes, still makes a big boom but not quite the “portable star” one expects from a proper nuclear chain reaction.
