Why is HESH still in this horrific state

Also very curious how APHE does not have shell shatter modelled, but APDS does…

183mm HESH should disassemble anything lighter than an IS-3. Basically, the only tanks that would see that round routinely that’d survive are the Maus, the IS-4, and the T95. And even they should probably get a hiding under some circumstances.

And that’s where Gaijin would need some “spine” to explain that HE/AP does not frag a crew if it doesn’t “raw” penetrate, and HESH does.

Exactly all tanks should be scrapped except for the IS-4M, the Maus, and the T-95, and even then… It’s important to realize that the 183mm Hesh can fire 50kg mini-bombs at 716m/s in real life, and they weigh 72kg.

6 SHOT ON jagdtiger and not dead.

that t44 shot was just horrible hesh cant pen stacked armor and you hit the spaced armor

only shot 2 and 3 were good the rest were just horrible hits

number 4 and the last one i dont even know what the plan was
228mm pen hesh against a 250mm plate

What was planned for the 6 shots was destruction in real life, and it should be the same in the game.

and ok 228mm pen hesh vs a 250mm plate but where is 21.76kg of tnt ? vaporized really ?

it could be 21KT it isnt modeled

I mean, in real life, 165mm HESH to the upper hull plate of a Tiger II dislodged a 1m wide scab from the inside of the tank that squished the Driver/Radio Operator and would’ve taken the legs off the Gunner and Commander while simultaneously destroying the transmission. The UK that did the testing determined that in that state with compromised armour and the crew seriously maimed and propulsion destroyed, that tank would’ve been knocked out.
That KT should have been dead on the 2nd shot.

which according to gaijin gives it 64.5mm of he pen

did a bunch of testing got interesting results

overpressure is modeled correctly HE cone is not

i wounder what those objects are that spawn around the hesh shell explosion

Dude it´s not horrific, it´s just underutilized!

You shot the turret on the last video

So the he pen of 63mm did nothing
Only the spalling penned and killed everything in line nothing more

Would you have hit the hull of 45mm it would have overpressured

this thread is 2.5 years old. In that time they added overpressure to HESH, however the quantity of explosive filler converted to the HE calculation is TINY. Anything under a 155mm isn’t overpressuring except in extreme cases. That leaves 3 vehicles (fv4005, AVRE, and T58) able to overpressure.

@Belenor85 when the vehicles with hesh don’t want to use hesh in any scenario… its not underutilized. Its just bad. The 120mm hesh should be able to OHK a T55 or T62 hull every single hit. Literally what it was designed to do. Instead 2/3 will do nothing at all. Why not just use a APDS/APFSDS at that point. at least it disables more reliably.

HESH will never be effective as long as APHE can one shot tanks, thanks to the kill requirement of using crews as HP pool.

Solid shot AP underperforms in the same way as HESH. Because a round going through the front and out the back doesn’t matter, as long as there is some live left in two crew members, who will overcome this dramatic event of their comrades dying a horrible death by immediately starting to repair any single component inside the vehicle.

Same with irreparable damage caused by HESH.

There’s still hope. The improvement to the Full AP rounds has finally been passed on to the developers for consideration. I know it’s not certain they’ll accept it, but it’s something. Now they need to review all the other bullets, especially the HESH rounds, which in my opinion should have more spalling and overpressure against armor that’s half as thick as the HESH bullet’s penetration. This is because if the armor is soft, the HESH round would break the metal plate, rendering it useless (the classic hull brake).
