“YES!! A hit!!”
Wait? HESH does enough damage for a “hit”?
Too OP nerf it
As far as i can tell the only two HESH shells to do damage are the cent AVRE and T58. But i imagine thats more from overpressure for T58 and the angle for AVRE as its hitting hull roofs.
Its tragic how bad HESH works in WT. if it was accurate until the chieftains id be using ONLY HESH on the vehicles with it for the most part because it would defeat enough armour and do sufficient internal damage to counter the worst trajectory
At this rate it wouldn’t surprise me if there’s some server-side nerf for HESH ammo exclusively that for whatever reason doesn’t impact premiums that are intended to be making use of HESH often (AVRE and T58)
Very ridiculous that HESH has remained in this state for nearly a whole decade.
It is just overpressure + reload speed.
When I test-drove the T58 and specifically aimed for the T-62 UFP (a plate HESH was designed to work on, and a HESH shell that size would straight-up break), it did about as little damage as any other HESH would there.
It’s solely overpressure and reload which explain why the T58 is doing as well as it does. When I aimed intentionally at a plate thick enough for the HESH effect but intentionally not next to a plate it could overpressure through (T-62 test drive target UFP), it did just as little damage as any other HESH.
And yes it is ridiculous, but there actually have been comparable mistakes done in the past from snail being somewhat sloppy. A good example was for many years (possibly since the game’s inception) up until Italy became its own independent air tree, their 12.7mm Breda MGs were completely missing their signature explosive bullets, as were Japanese 12.7mm Ho-103s copy-pasted after those.
Never attribute to malice what can best be explained by stupidity.
It’s nice to assume there’s some conspiratorial thinking happening snail-side to prevent HESH from being useful, but the truth is that it’s not a priority on their end. Except for what, three derp gun glass cannons with painful reloads, only one of which is supposed to rely on the HESH effect and not overpressure, almost nothing relies on HESH to kill stuff. Thus since few tanks bother using it, snail is in no hurry to fix it.
Why would you bother using 90mm HESH on anything that has it, especially if its like the M56 which also gets M82 APHE? And then with second-gen APDS being changed to pen slopes better, there’s very few situations where you truly need HESH anymore. Even the British now have two other arguably better derp cannons to use instead of the Barn.
HESH is just stuck in a cycle of disinterest. It doesn’t work, so few people use it. Because few people use it, devs assume its fine and focus their energies elsewhere, so it continues to not work.
