Dude it´s not horrific, it´s just underutilized!
You shot the turret on the last video
So the he pen of 63mm did nothing
Only the spalling penned and killed everything in line nothing more
Would you have hit the hull of 45mm it would have overpressured
this thread is 2.5 years old. In that time they added overpressure to HESH, however the quantity of explosive filler converted to the HE calculation is TINY. Anything under a 155mm isn’t overpressuring except in extreme cases. That leaves 3 vehicles (fv4005, AVRE, and T58) able to overpressure.
@Belenor85 when the vehicles with hesh don’t want to use hesh in any scenario… its not underutilized. Its just bad. The 120mm hesh should be able to OHK a T55 or T62 hull every single hit. Literally what it was designed to do. Instead 2/3 will do nothing at all. Why not just use a APDS/APFSDS at that point. at least it disables more reliably.
HESH will never be effective as long as APHE can one shot tanks, thanks to the kill requirement of using crews as HP pool.
Solid shot AP underperforms in the same way as HESH. Because a round going through the front and out the back doesn’t matter, as long as there is some live left in two crew members, who will overcome this dramatic event of their comrades dying a horrible death by immediately starting to repair any single component inside the vehicle.
Same with irreparable damage caused by HESH.
There’s still hope. The improvement to the Full AP rounds has finally been passed on to the developers for consideration. I know it’s not certain they’ll accept it, but it’s something. Now they need to review all the other bullets, especially the HESH rounds, which in my opinion should have more spalling and overpressure against armor that’s half as thick as the HESH bullet’s penetration. This is because if the armor is soft, the HESH round would break the metal plate, rendering it useless (the classic hull brake).
Yesterday i shot OSA AKM with my two reliable hesh on CCVL. Twice hit the cabin, twice zero damage at all. So i ask then, why even bother carrying them…
Gaijin really needs to fix HESH again. Its not even a joke. It does not work as HE, even being particularly one. It does not work as AP.
OSA has thin enough armour that it wont Fuze HESH
Yet another bug with HESH. lists 4mm fuse sensitivity, but fails to detonate on 4mm armor. Not just that, but when the armor is sloped and the effective armor goes up far above 4mm, it still fails to detonate. Yay ‘features’.
That is because it is stuctural steel which is 0.45ke modifier! There is a lot of suspect issues with armour type in ground tbh, like how HHRA is mostly seen on Russian tanks and for some bizzare reason modern HHRA is worse than standard HHRA. I dont mind HESH not fuzing on 4mm though that is ok. Better to get past skirts if anything.
And yet, you can put an extreme angle on the shell and get all the way up to ~12mm effective protection and it will still fail to fuse.
For real?
Thats a shame

jokes are supposed to be funny or witty. When neither, its either tedius or mistaken for ignorance.
183 HESH with 40 pounds of TNT stuffed in it: Can’t kill a Panther from the front.
Meanwhile HE rounds with HALF the filler can.
OR you get things like this happening.
Which i get it, Thin skinned SPAA, but i legit HAVE to have my Radar up to DO anything, So someone shouldn’t be able to shoot a piece of it 10-15 feet above me and overpressure my entire crew, and not only that NUKE the entire vehicle, Not a single module survived despite that round hitting that far up.
