Why has Advance mode never returned?

It was an exciting mode utilising all sections of the Novorossyisk map, a bit like Frontline in World of Tanks, with one side defending and the other side trying to capture dynamic points. It was available for one week a couple of years ago, I played it a lot and found it already surprisingly well balanced despite being so new. Other players were also mostly positive about it in the battle chat. So why has it not made a second appearance yet? I really miss it and would like to play it again.

I imagine the morons whined about it being unfair etc and as you know society has to walk at the pace of it’s slowest. We have a new breed of weedy millennial’s fixated with equality and any perceived imbalance has to be eradicated. So we have to have “Balanced” games on a map resembling an air hockey table at all times now.

Not really. The main issues were the spawn costs, slight unbalance between attacers/defenders, and the overall balance/variety of the tanks. It was a hard BR cutoff of 5.7, so every match was Tiger I/Panther vs t-34-85/IS-2/M18/Jumbo.

That being said, it was very good, and I really hope Gaijin does it again, but with a few tweaks. I didn’t see very much negative opinion about it too, which makes it puzzling as to why they haven’t mentioned it since.

I think, usually, that new maps/modes are generally the most "balanced(and fun) because they are . . . new. No one knows the sniping spots, short trips to a spawn camping spot or “known” routes and chokepoints. To me that has always been the better/more fun ways to play the game. Probably the most fun I have had playing tanks was in CBT(not exclusively, but more consistently), no one knew anything . . . lol, and it was great fun, learn as you go and everything was new . . . age of discovery . . . new stuff has the “shiny” older stuff has lost I guess . . . but that’s just me

Yeah …like I said

It was and we all know why it has gone …like I said.

The sides are the sides if you cant take it then why play the game?

“so every match was Tiger I/Panther vs t-34-85/IS-2/M18/Jumbo.”

And? German mains, shockingly bad win rate for Germany mid tier? Your point is what?

You are telling me the sides are unfair given the statistical evidence to the contrary?

Like I said, knee jerk complaining with zero thought. The reason the game is on its arse.

No it wasn’t. People weren’t instantly for or against the idea, and the feedback was mostly positive.

Don’t blame the players for the fact that Gaijin hasn’t even mentioned anything similar since. It clearly wasn’t badly received, and it could’ve been incredibly good if it had a bit more work.

Sorry but I will blame the whiny fan base who did nothing but bitch about imbalance.

The responses in the old forum feedback thread and the Reddit post were mostly positive, and most people were happy with something different. It was overall a positive experience that could be made much better with some extra polish.

If I remember correctly, CAS was also pretty expensive which was a great change too.

On the old forum the moaners took center stage. It was a damn good game and fun. They moaned it was a city map and favoured heavy armour even though German heavies hate cities traditionally. Just pure BS as usual and it clearly won the day as usual. The same map in game regularly pits Germany vs USSR or USA so what is the issue?

And that seemed to be the consensus for the player base, both then and now.

The issue is that Gaijin has ignored it despite it getting positive feedback, and they should’ve gathered enough feedback to make tweaks to the mode to make it better than it was.

“The event may end prematurely for technical reasons.”

Oh Gaijin, why’d you cancel this, it looked so much fun and it felt like an actual tank game from the gameplay I could find.

I’m guessing the “technical” reason was the lack of linear maps that would support this game mode, so they figured it wasn’t worth putting in the effort to craft a whole set of maps for an entire new mode.

I remember it all very well and I am sure it’s all still on the old forum.
People moaned that German armour was suddenly invincible and couldn’t cope and that was that. Same with many similar events.

Personally I find the Shermans to be nimble in towns and the Russian IS variants to be the most trouble. There are so many elements to this game that we all loved and the moaners ruined. I am sure others will say that is down to my taste and opinion.

Much of the in game blandness is cause by constant complaints about anything Gaijin have tried to spice things up.

I think we can all agree that canning this game mode prematurely was a really poor decision, it’s about time the game gets a fresh coat of paint, the current game modes for GRB are stale and outdated by today standards.

Did Gaijin ever give a reason as to why the game mode was canceled? The community support was there, and the majority seemed to like it, it was flawed in some areas for sure, but nothing that could’ve been solved with some tweaking.

I was really hoping someone from Gaijin could contribute to this discussion and shed some light on the prospects of Advance. I do not want to think that this mode is dead and buried for whatever reason or no reason at all.

Cynical me says it’s because people were actually having fun. And people who have fun are not frustrated. And people who are not frustrated tend to not buy things. Or something.

Realistically I think @EddieVanHalo is right; too many people whining - on both sides. I think also they just didn’t have enough maps to make it viable; Novowhatever gets stale quick.

Personally I loved the game mode, yeah it wasn’t 100% balanced, but back in the day Gaijin actually had this whole hard-on for asymmetrical warfare where balance wasn’t always 100% for “realism” purposes. (Granted, there were, even back then, many cries of Russian bias).

It’d be nice to see it make a comeback, now for all tiers, and for the higher tiers on much larger maps.

We can only hope they go through with this game mode, it would greatly benefit top tier but balance at those BRs might be an issue, specially with CAS being so strong which would give the attackers a huge advantage but nothing higher SP costs and fewer aircraft per side (like sim) would solve, which I would be okay with.

But maps, maps, maps; There aren’t enough maps in this game besides Porto Novo that would actually support this new game mode.

Maps are really holding back this game, isn’t it.

I played it in Arcade, so there were no nation (dis)balance issues.
Does not have to be a permanent mode, just a regular event and that one large map was perfectly fine. Frontline in World of Tanks only has two maps, and people still enjoy playing it, I know I did. Just bring it back please.

Many other temporary game modes were also well received, but weren’t really brought into the game permanently.

I think that Gaijin doesn’t want to bring more permanent modes in, just to avoid making balancing even more complicated and to avoid fracturing the playerbase. (which is a disaster imo, but it seems to be inevitable development for all big games)

At least they are trying to work on current ground modes with building ammo and prepared positions.

People are just bad at the game and want things to remain as they are.

Pretty much, it’s always been Gaijin’s weak point to make maps for ground forces; especially lately. I think all they really have to do is pull out the sim maps, and do Advance on those because it can be argued it’s an elective game mode where you choose to take part, so whinging about “yeah but I have to drive for…” and “yeah but then I’ll die and I’ll need to drive for …” can be squashed right there.

But I’m not holding my breath. That would require a level of competence on Gaijin’s part they haven’t demonstrated in many years, and it would require actually, you know, investing a bit more into your game which the snail doesn’t seem to want to do (if anything they seem to be on a shoestring budget these days).
