Lol like gaijin wants that. I remember when they made the zeroing automatic for laser rangefinders, the skill of the average player went down by 25% in a month
1: request sim mechanics be added to rb but you dont want to play sim
2: ???
3: profit
I remember one dude wanted the gunner sight and removal of third person in rb. I asked why he didnt play sim and he said “no one plays it”. Made me wonder.
I’m quite sure that we are talking about forcing to use gunner sight and the consequences of doing so in RB, including less breeching and weak spot shots, which are seen in sim cuz everyone knows sim has this on.
No one plays it means the Looooooooooong queue
No one plays it so gaijin doesn’t care so it’s not improved and updated, BRs (tank choices), balance &c.
No one plays it so there could not be a Sim that focus on battalion-level vehicle precision, aka everyone same tank on a battlefield where THE battalions with THE tanks had fought.
Too long, didn’t read.
But you can have this feature in ground sim.
i ain’t reading all this shit
if you want gunner sights there is an option for that in setting
Absolutely, across all modes. It’s absurd and honestly embarassing that a game like WT has CoD-style headglitching. Even actual arcady games like Battlefield got rid of this silliness a decade ago.
It’s on par with things like having hitscan projectiles, bad game design leftover from a time of technical limitations long since past.
nah, german mains would cry over the jumbo
/s
(jokes aside, this is not really a good idea)
Here, since I cant be asked to make a reply of my own, I’ll just let chatgpt do it
Forcing the use of the gunner’s sight (which is a more specialized aiming view) instead of the barrel sight (which is a more general and intuitive aiming system) as the default view in War Thunder’s Ground Realistic mode would likely be a bad idea for several reasons:
1. Decreased Flexibility in Target Engagement
- The barrel sight allows players to aim with a more straightforward, external view of the tank’s gun and target, which is especially useful for engaging moving or distant targets. It’s an intuitive way to quickly adjust and track targets without being locked into a narrow view.
- The gunner’s sight, on the other hand, often provides a zoomed-in, narrower field of view that may restrict the player’s ability to track moving targets or engage at long ranges. If forced to use the gunner’s sight as the default, players may struggle with quickly reacquiring targets or adjusting their aim, especially in dynamic combat situations.
2. Lowered Situational Awareness
- Situational awareness is crucial in Ground Realistic mode, where players need to be aware of enemy positions, terrain, and other environmental factors. The barrel sight allows players to maintain a wider view of their surroundings, making it easier to identify threats and position their tanks effectively.
- The gunner’s sight, being more focused on the target and offering less of the surrounding environment, reduces this awareness. By defaulting to the gunner’s sight, players would find it harder to assess the battlefield and avoid being ambushed or flanked.
3. Hindered Tank Movement and Positioning
- Tank positioning is vital in War Thunder’s Ground Realistic mode. Players need to be able to see obstacles, terrain changes, and other vehicles around them to maneuver effectively. The barrel sight provides a better field of view for this, as it gives the player more information about the immediate surroundings while aiming.
- The gunner’s sight limits the player’s field of vision, forcing them to focus almost entirely on the crosshairs and the immediate target. This can make it harder to navigate the tank and adjust movement based on the environment, which is especially important when dealing with terrain or avoiding enemy fire.
4. Increased Frustration and Reduced Accessibility
- Forcing the gunner’s sight as the default view could lead to frustration, particularly for newer players. The gunner’s sight typically has a higher degree of precision but requires more careful management of both the gun and the target. Newer players might find it difficult to engage enemies effectively in dynamic combat situations.
- The barrel sight provides a simpler and more intuitive way to aim, allowing new players to engage targets more easily without needing to deal with the complexity of a zoomed-in, precise aiming system.
5. Incompatibility with the Tank’s Gameplay Style
- Many tanks in War Thunder, especially medium and heavy tanks, are designed to be used in a more mobile, versatile manner. The ability to quickly switch between barrel sight (for general target engagement) and the gunner’s sight (for more precise shots at longer distances) allows players to adapt to different situations.
- Forcing the gunner’s sight as the default could alienate players who prefer the more fluid, dynamic combat of barrel sight aiming, especially in situations where quick adjustments are needed for close-quarters engagements or while maneuvering.
6. Impact on Tank Variety and Playstyle
- In War Thunder, different tank types (e.g., light tanks, medium tanks, and heavy tanks) have different combat roles and strengths. The barrel sight is particularly useful for tanks that rely on mobility or need to engage a variety of targets at different ranges.
- If the gunner’s sight were forced as the default, it could skew the way players approach different tank types, making it harder for them to engage targets efficiently at medium or close range, especially for tanks that are meant to be used in a more agile, fast-paced role.
7. Lack of Realism in Tank Operations
- While the gunner’s sight is highly precise and accurate, it doesn’t fully represent how tank crews operate in real combat. In a real tank, the gunner’s sight is typically used for more precise aiming at long distances or specific targets, but tank crews often rely on the commander and the barrel sight for broader targeting and engagement in more dynamic situations.
- Forcing the gunner’s sight would misrepresent the actual coordination that happens within a tank crew, as it eliminates the flexibility of choosing between different perspectives for different combat situations.
8. Zooming and Motion Sickness Issues
- The gunner’s sight is often zoomed in and can cause motion sickness for some players, especially during fast-paced combat or when moving the tank quickly. Forcing this view as the default could make it more uncomfortable for players, especially those who are sensitive to zoomed-in perspectives.
- The barrel sight, by comparison, offers a less intense visual experience, which can be more comfortable for a wider range of players.
In conclusion, forcing the gunner’s sight as the default in War Thunder’s Ground Realistic mode would limit player flexibility, reduce situational awareness, complicate tank movement, and frustrate both new and experienced players. The barrel sight, with its broader field of view, provides a more balanced, accessible, and dynamic gameplay experience, which is better suited to the game’s design.
Do you want this because of realism or because you are getting killed on weakspots?
It should be the default, it would make cheap barrel shots and weak spot hunting more challenging and fair for everybody, specially regarding the Abrams situation, it would be a much needed buff. I played with gunner sight in RB for a while and it’s actually not that bad, I would be in favor of it as nearly all tanks play the same, having to learn where your bullets actually come out from and hitting targets is rewarding.
This exists, it’s called simulator.

A bore sight indicator like you get in binoculars view would be a good way to go about this, why wasn’t done this way from the beginning is anyone’s guess.
You have this in GSB already, no need to force it onto GRB as well.
Yeah lmao you already lost me there. You can play as german bmp1, have leo in your lineup together with arado, be teamed up with usa, china and sweden and fight rest of the countires on snowy island near antartica. Not to mention all the technical stuff being simplified. What realism and immersion you are talking about? Now in bit more realistic and immersive sim mode gun sights work how you want, so I suggest you trying that mode.
What. No one is suggesting removing third-person view.
I’m not the one who wrote it
If you didn’t write it, don’t post it. Especially when the dumb AI couldn’t even vomit out something that was actually about the topic at hand.
funny, when this entire comment thread was started by an AI post that I’m pretty sure was the exact opposite of the prompt I gave it
Anyway, bad idea, go play sim gg
