this is true, though a bad argument, since we have many prototypes, even those who didn’t fire any munition, in game.
It is more Gaijin balancing with giving stuff munitions or not, than any historical fact.

DM63 has higher pressures that older guns cannot withstand.
On top of that, ruining an already mid light vehicle when VFM5 exists along with future light vehicles that are better.

What future light vehicles britian has that would be better at higher tier and not just a side grade to 9.0/10.0 at best? The VMF5 lack of thermals and good zoom really hold it back, other than size it’s not much better than the 105 or mttd, mttd is also quite bit more survivable than either of them due to crew and ammo placement despite having less crew

Is it possible to buff reload time and ammo to make it to 10.0? with 10-12rpm with DM63 is absolutely worth 10.0 even 10.3
Reload time for the MTTD is based on the autoloader, so in this case there’s not much wiggle room around what it was IRL. To be clear, I don’t know if the current reload is accurate, I can find next to no information on the MTTD online.
IMO, give it DM33, let it swap lineups with the VFM5. VFM5 would be perfectly balanced at 9.0 even with DM33, MTTD would make a better 9.3 since it has gen 1 thermals.
Honestly, a production variant at a later point in the tech tree would be lovely. Two variants for different spots and lineups would be much appreciated. Same thing with the TTD, would love to see a later variant with the 120mm. (Would also love to see it get the 3rd gen thermals it’s missing)
I would like this but wouldn’t expect as not much of a precedent has been set for prototypes getting what they would receive in production. Although their is an olifant mk2 prototype fitted with a 120mm turret in the SA armour museum
I really doubt the reload time, because it almost based on the normal 105 mm guns reload time when you have ace crews.
