Why does the Su-30SM get R-77-1 while the F/A-18C is stuck with AIM-120B?

100% not having a reliable Radar leaves you far too open to ambushes

Playing passively allows your Radar the time to find things.

I really miss the old forums “incredulous face” emoticon for some of these posts. Also it is painfully obvious that some of these american mains have never flown the foreign planes that they complain about. They cry about the Su-30 and the 77-1 being gamebreaking, but don’t even identify the factors that actually let the Su-30 compete with its NATO rivals. It’s not thrust vectoring and it’s not the 77-1.

They don’t understand that russian players would replace their 77-1’s with AIM-120s in a heartbeat if they could. The Su-30’s flight model and the 77-1’s drag do not let the russian players make quality long range launches like NATO opposition. The advantages of the Su-30 rests predominately in two related points:

1: It carries a TON of missiles. There is value to be harvested from firing missiles that you do not expect to actually hit. Firing missiles with the intent to force the opponent to respect the missile and zone the opponent in order to set the stage for follow up shots that are more likely to score a kill. It’s not hard to evade a single Fox 3 at medium ranges, but the act of dodging that missiles comes at a cost in terms of energy and position. This is a concept that a lot of people in this thread blatantly haven’t learned, and the AIM120’s ability to preserve its energy makes it a threat to greater ranges than alternatives. The 77-1 is not as good as the 120 in this regard, but the Su-30 boasts a massive number of 77-1’s so it can afford to throw some away without blinking.

2: The Su-30’s huge hardpoint count allows it to carry niche missiles like the R-27ET and R-27ER that are both overall inferior to Fox-3s but enjoy advantages in specific niche use cases. The Su-30 is the first russian fighter to actually have a good enough radar to reliably perform the 27ER’s parlor trick shots where older platforms had cross-eyed radars that were likely to lose track of the target entirely if you tried to do anything fancy.

The problem with Su-30 is the Radar is incredible and the FM is good enough even when carrying 14 missiles.

R-77-1 is slightly better than 120 in a number of envelopes. Close range and medium range R-77-1 pulls so hard and fast off the rail! While 120s have a slight delay.

A well flown Su-30 is one of the scariest things in the game that and Rafales!

The closest analogue we have in game is the F/A-18C late with 10 Aim 120s…Yet we hardly ever see an F/A-18C with 4+ kills yet Su-30 regulary hitting 5+ kills.

Top speed is important but not as crucial as it doesnt allow you to defend as effectively, anything more than mach 1.3 and you black out before you get into the Notch.

I would also add as a Typhoon player I would swap 120s for R-77-1s

I dont think ive killed anyone farther than 20km with the r77 1 besides an afk base bombing su34, still have to take r27er for bvr at start of the match and since its fox 2 the chance of being able to guide it into target before having to go defensive are pretty slim when you are a big fat slow flanker vs f15 and typhoons at the start of the match they are way higher and faster. I feel like my eurofighter has like 50% more range in actual games in bvr not looking at paper stats, ill throw aim 120b at like 30km in a headon and get kills, throwing r771 farther than 20km is just pissing them away or at best forcing somone on the def which is great if 1v1s ever existed in air quake.

What kind of meltdown are we gonna see when the r37 gets added? Americans getting way too puffed up fighting 3rd world countries using cold war surplus for 30 years. Reading these reports about american combat kills in the ME and they are fighting mig 21 and 23s in their amraam slingers lol, idk why they even bother taking off.

Typhoon being faster gives you more range and lethality…but it is a double edged sword.
Flying at mach 1.6-7 gives you the Typhoon player less time to defend and makes any missiles fired at you more dangerous.

R-27ER is great and they catch many players out.

Typhoon also only has 6 120s so you cant waste them and need to be closer putting you into R-77-1 and MICA engagement ranges.

R-37 and Meteor arent needed. The biggest gripes are going to come when Gaijin add the Su-35 at the end of the year. Insane performance incredible Radar and a massive payload

i mean, f15ex will match it. both will got 12 arh missiles, altho the su35s will be better at short range, and will also get 6 of the longest range fox 3s in the game

Yep both are a miserable time for Typhoon.

I think unless Meta changes Su-35 will be the best all round jet in the game.

F-15EX will still have to depend on 120s

120s/260s by then will be 40ish gs, with .3 seconds delay compared to there .6 right now. And they’ll be the longest range medium range arh missiles. I think they’ll be fine.

AIM-260? AIM-120D-3 & E? AMRAAM-ER (more questionable, but still)

260s, Meteors, PL-15, R-77M and R-37M are miles away

F-15 might get a 120C

The EX is also a ways away

I dont know i see it sooner US needs a new F-15
AESA Radars are in game and Russian mains will expect a Su-35 after flying the slow Su-30.

F-15EX and Su-35 are pretty good counterparts.
Sadly the rest will suffer (not France)
Typhoons Radar is so bad and another nation having AESA and comparable flight performance just pushes it down.

What about a later C/E, or F-15SA. EX is peak F-15, deserves a special update with peak flanker somewhere down the line

Depends on how much of a leap.
Su-35 is the best flanker so guess the F-15EX is the best Eagle.

It works on that level.
Yeah there are other Eagles

Pretty big leap even from F-15SA to EX

I could see Su-35S or maybe a further modernized Su-35 added with EX in maybe a year

It was a big leap from Su-27SM to Su-30SM

We can speculate all we want. Maybe Gaijin drop the F-22 at the end of the year.

Give the Su-30 players something to complain about lol

Don’t need F-22 to do it just newer AMRAAM will do it enough.

By the way, when will we see electronic warfare? I don’t think it’s necessary to introduce the 5th generation, since even all 4rd gen have it or 3rd generation can use it via pods.

J16 exists you know…
