Why does the French FR 49 - M61 With same velocity seem to have less, well velocity-?

I’ve noticed something odd when using the French FR 49 ( AMX-13 (FL-11), E.B.R (1951) ) with M61 ammo. On paper, the velocity stats appear to be the same as the Sherman 75mm M3, but in practice the round feels slower and worse-?

If it helps I’ve noticed a major disconnect between the rounds like in game appearance and where the round actually is. Just several times I’ve hit tanks well before my round visually hits them and vice versa.

Ah but you see, Gaijin hates France! The legend foretold and the myths explained and up and down and left and right and whatnot.

Jk the actual reason is that the sight has a higher magnification coefficient.

The M4A2 Sherman has a pretty abysmal magnification

Only up to 3.5x

The Chaffee is higher at 5.0x

Now the FL11-turret has a pretty insane 5.8x magnification for a gun that is mostly meant for lobbing HE at infantry and trenches

And it’s locked to a minimum of 5.4x, so you see REALLY far, thus the slow round feels slower because you look at stuff much further away (eg it takes longer to reach).

The same issue is felt in the Leopard as it too gets a pretty wild 15x zoom, making even the 1.5km/s DM13/23 feel slow compared to f.ex. the Centurion 10 with only 6x.

Also the Centurion AVRE has this issue but cranked up to 11 as it’s running a 6x scope with only a 259m/s velocity (gaijin please give a rangefinder with more exact distances to it)

Probably cause of optics.

The super low magnification of M4 Shermans help because the dashes are closer together in lower magnification.

I tend to prefer lower magnifications myself.
