Before professional football matches the players lineup and shake hands first. I don’t see how saying ‘good luck and have fun’ is any different, nor how it annoys you when other people do it. If you think they are being phoney that is you projecting your own selfishness onto others, imo.
I guess it’s a mentality issue. Another common thread seems to be people wishing their opponents nothing but bad luck. IMO an easy victory is worth less. Winning against strong opposition is far more rewarding than stomping people into the ground. It’s one of the issues I have with playing the Russian tech tree - the vehicles are just too good.
Eh, I actually like wholesome thunder. Sometimes I initiate it and sometimes not, but typically when someone else from either team says glhf, I find that nice, and respond something like “you too, mate”.
Well into my 6th decade on this earth, must disagree. I still hold doors open, smile and say hello to a passersby at times and even manage to have small talk with strangers occasionally. This is hardly the virtue signalling you are attempting to label, but part of a polite and civilized society. For the self-centered introverts in the world, it’s your life and Karma can be a bitch.
Taking the piss or not, I respond to the " GLHF " crowd by replying - " Wrong game. " - I do it for my own amusement. Is it toxic? You could say it is, depending on personal interpretation.
See, it’s easy to tell when someone hasn’t really thought something through yet when their way to be “polite and civilized” is to threaten people who don’t say “hi” back to them with bad “karma”. Might want to go back to those “mindfulness through meditation” classes… think you missed something.
I have given many examples in this thread where verbal politeness is expected and I engage in it, in game and out. I’m saying a WT game has a different norm (as the OP started by pointing out, as if it wasn’t obvious), and no one here has the power to change that. There is nothing “self-centred” or “introverted” about respecting the social norms of the microculture you’re in. It is in fact, the exact opposite.
No threats made, but if you are self identifying - so be it. Nothing missed but will close the back and forth in mentioning ASPD is not easy to manage and good luck to you. Oh, and have a great day!
It is imho a matter of personality and a product of your education / environment how you interact with others - and based on core principles you were taught by the people which raised you.
So as long as you are smart enough to assess “when and where to act how” to achieve which goals you can be quite successful despite being a jerk.
But being authentic in your interactions with others without denying your actual core values is the main challenge in all aspects of life - and you have always to assess to cost benefit ratio of acting like you are or want to be and what society expects from you.
Therefore it is not a question of norms, it is more a matter of assessing them in the right context and your willingness to sacrifice short term benefits if those norms are contradicting the essence of your personality and your actual goals in life.
So following norms like “When in Rome, do what Romans do” might have benefits, but stable and strong personalities are happy to break norms if those are just the product of wanted or unwanted attempts of others to change norms to achieve certain goals.
There is a major difference between respecting and accepting or just considering social norms in your decision making process.
And there a lots of very good reasons not to follow norms as they are just artificial boundaries - people able to think outside the box or not following the swarm / mainstream / norms are actually changing the world and not people happy to hide in in the swarm or behind norms.
I don’t chat a lot in game because most people don’t seem interested in having constructive chats, when it’s especially “unconstructive” I even go to the trouble of reporting them, ya’ll are welcome!
I think the timer also doesn’t help, as has been mentioned. The auto-messages could be extended as they can actually be quite useful instead of having to type things out. Things like “they’re on the left/right flank” or “they’re behind us!” etc. to maybe catch the team’s attention to some problematic situations.
Self-report how, exactly? That some folks are more interested in the socializing then others? If you’re trying to make any claims regarding toxicity in this thread, you’re lacking substantial evidence for that. I suggest you check your vibe before somebody does it for you.
The auto timer was placed because of the Ukraine- Russia war.Chat descended into two large countries shouting abuse at each other compounded by each nations hangers on.Proving that chat is nothing but useless and divisive.
I used to write ‘glhf’ for some time before each Match but 80% nothing was replied, 18% of the time someone told me to k* myself instead and 2% of the time a single person replied with thx/u2 so i just quit doing that and enjoy radio spam instead
You’re taking one instance that I provided, and stated that whether it was toxic or not was up to personal interpretation, and trying to say I self-reported?
I’m not sure what’s worse - your reading comprehension or your runs of logic. I’m guessing you failed your way through highschool with your lack of understanding nuance.
The amount of times I have passed by a friendly sitting idle only to be taken out by an enemy and thinking"That A*****e could have warned me the enemy was there " instead of letting me blunder in.
I would erase every stupid message currently available and go again with something useful.I don’t need to be told there is Air up I can hear it and WTF is Gramercy?
Seriously when I am flying in with CAS it is useful when a good teammate hears me coming in and tells me where the trouble is.Something like “Airstrike here” would be useful or “Enemy tank on C”, “Watch left flank”, “Take right flank” etc etc. There is always spam but it only takes a little while to work out who the clowns are.
Approximately 50% of my losing games (and about 10% of the winning ones) have someone saying in team chat, “you’re all a bunch of useless losers,” (generally much more profane, I’m being kind. Sometimes they single out individual players and use racial epithets). Is that “trash talk” or “toxicity?”
I’m not sure why mentioning self-reports triggered you so much, but you you may have forgotten that you also talked about “talking trash” above and that you berate people in general. You even said people playing a specific nation always deserve to be berated.
That’s not talk about a single instance…
Might want to be careful with your accusations, the way you respond is just further self-reporting about how you berate people, you’re doing it to me right now…
