Why can't vehicles fire ATGMs while driving?

Why can’t ATGMs mounted on tanks be fired while moving?

In real life, they can be fired at full speed, but with a vehicle like an Begleitpanzer, for example, the ATGM cannot be fired while moving; the vehicle must be stationary, even though the ATGM is freely positioned next to the main gun and moves with it.

Because it’s required for security reasons, to prevent the wire to rip, keep accuracy and so on, there’s a web-site that talks further detailed about these limitations which is now archived:

But technicly u can shoot them while driving its just not save?

Its a soviet only feature. Its annoying.

There is evidence for other ATGM slingers and some SAMs being able to be fired on the move. Including primary docs. They wont accept reports for them. (Most prominent I know of is the ZT3A2)

In theory, anything with a stabiliser should be able to fire on the move, wired guided I can see being limited to very low speeds due to issues with the wire ripping or something, but to not allow any firing is deeply frustrating

To deny this in-game limitation you can simply stop, launch and keep driving and the missile will work perfectly. It’s a rather awkward solution requiring to fully stop and then launch the missile to return to the move but it’s the best way to go around it. It’s not patched if it isn’t fixed, keep that in mind and may be useful in some situations, from testing it works with every missiles.

Not just soviets… the shillelag can be fired on the move, all fnf missiles can be launch on the move, the flaric, the chinese 105 and 125 mm gun launched missiles.
Just because the under br zt3a2 doesnt have it doesnt make it a “soviet only feature”

Soviet wire guided ATGMs, like those on the BMP-1 and 2, require you to be stationary like everyone else. All the systems that can be fired on the move (above CC: battle anyway) are stabilized beam riding systems (or radio-SACLOS in the case of the IT-1). even the un-stabilized beam riding ones like the Khrizantema require you to stop.

It’s a feature of beam riding (and fire and forget) missiles which other nations use as well

Not all. For example ZT3A2 and Stormer HVM are beam riding, requires to be stationary to fire.

Fairly certain both have sources for firing on the move. (ZT3A2 100%, Stormer HVM, 75% sure)

It’s probably a technicality for those specific missiles that Gaijin added for some reason, there are many limitations to systems in real life that are no modeled at all in the game but Gaijin likes to pick and choose when it comes to “realism”.

I have heard that the bradley doesn’t prevent fire but just has a warning for going above the speed limit on the missiles, though if they wanted to implement that they would have to add a chance for the missiles to loose tracking for example. Then again I may be wrong about the bradley only having a warning.

Not all russian beam riding missiles can be fired on the move either. You require documentation that the vehicles had that capability, on the case of the zt3a2 the missiles is capable to, but they claim that the platform is not able to fire in the move
