Why are there missiles in WWII naval battles?

I’m tired of playing BR 4.7 and later and dying to missiles I can’t do anything about. It’s discouraging to play like this: you’re in a piston-engine plane at 8000 meters altitude and a missile comes out of nowhere. I can’t dodge it or destroy it, and the player is hidden behind a mountain and can still see all the enemies. I’m considering never playing naval battles again since it’s frustrating to fight against something you can’t counter.

Because gaijin refuses to add proper anti-ship missiles so they add surface to air missiles and balance them as anti-ship missiles

They would have to put them in a separate mode from WWII vehicles

Nope, just at an appropriate br

I feel that majority of the USSRs stuff needs to be moved up some BRs. Specifically Coastal!

And make coastal worse just for one nation instead of properly balancing everything and on top of that adding a proper coastal battles matchmaking which is a factor that could improve the general experience in this branch of vessels?

Because there is no such thing as WW2 naval battles

False - the missiles all leave massive smoke trails are are pretty easy to dodge in anything smaller than a Pe-8/B-17/Lancaster

lol good luck dodging the S125 with a 20m proxy fuze

It manoeuvres like a greased hippo on ice - it is relatively easy to dodge… won’t work all the time but in any single engined a/c you should manage it 50% of the time or more

Not exactly WWII battles when there are cold war vessels from 1.7 - 6.7 inter mingled in each rank & even without missiles the guns are just as deadly to aircraft, same with many aircraft for several nations.

I’ll admit my position as out late has been with a soviet missile corvette Project 1124 (MPK-33) & yep most aircraft are just shagged, yet at the same time for much more longer we’ve had cold war ships with radar guided cannons firing HE-VT shells at aircraft that can knock aircraft out quite quickly example the Type 41 AD Frigate or hell the Tiger class cruiser or Restigouche class Destroyer, former having four high RoF 4.5" cannons while the latter even higher RoF 3" (also the middle with both the 3" & the 6" cannons).

At the current point in time & for missiles in general since the Nettuno AShM large aircraft are outdated, be it the missiles, HE-VT shells or that one bloody AI that snipes heavy aircraft are currently near useless.

You’re better off with smaller nimble single or twin engine aircraft, if you take an air spawn expect trouble, your best bet is to dive down & use terrain or make for heavy cloud cover if the map has it (clouds block radar lock, also you cannot icon lock aircraft in clouds).

From again using MPK-33 you should attempt a corkscrew manoeuvre in a dive to avoid an incoming missile if you spot the missile trail, then fly along terrain.

It can be frustrating but just don’t expect to use air with the same BR as your ships for bomb kills all the time

Air dropped torps are often easier 6.0 to 6.7, your worst enemies will get picked off by hungry battleships that have no AAA.

Sometimes rockets are best, even at 4.3 many destroyers have lots of guns so your only going to be picking off speedboats anyway.

Most of the time your often better off using a fighter since the majority of bombers will die from being slow and never get their reload anyway.

There are also stupid things like dropping a big boy from Pe-8 or Lancaster or using tops on cruisers since you cannot both watch the bombs descent and effectively dodge AAA so the learning curve is very steep.

The way the torp sight swings in is also ridiculous, like they are OP and need some kind of UI impediment, just dated design that needs attention IMO.

also consider bringing floatplanes for sneaky caps. Sometimes decapping since hull floaters like BV 138 they can hit the water and interact with the cap zone above 200km/h, and the Ro.44, OS2U and N1K1 are gems for actual caps.

H8K2, Sunderland and the other big ones can also contribute on conquest maps, although it’s a bit boring it does require attention.
