Why are the maps so bad, in 1 minute of play there are already 5 tanks exploding who respawn at the base, the respawn point is a completely open place where it is possible to shoot from half the map and hit anyone, will this ever improve?
Doubt it. The maps have been dogwater since basically the start and Gaijin just refuses to replace the maps, and even the new maps are bad.
Gaijin couldn’t design a proper map even if their lives depended on it. Tragic, really.
Gaijin have been systematically making maps smaller and worse for years now. So they clearly are not interested in making better maps
Small maps = faster matches = more matches = better stats
Cause they’re spending the money buying Fortnite maps? https://www.msn.com/en-us/gaming/epic-games/war-thunder-studio-acquires-fortnite-custom-game-in-deal-worth-millions/ar-AA1J8LEU
BRUH, this definitely wasn’t on my 2025 bingo card
War Thunder is following in the footsteps of Call of Duty: “sniping maps bad, CQC good” while forgetting that CoD is dying and relying on being Fortnite. Next thing you know, we will have a War Thunder Bottle Royale (oh wait, that’s just War Thunder Mobile)
That’s actually very interesting, thanks for the heads up
Gaijin lazy
Gaijin has been systematically making maps larger for years now.
Larger maps are more difficult to get right which is one of the reasons players tend to prefer smaller legacy maps.
The other reason players choose smaller maps is they make tanks like Leopard, Ariete, Leclerc more balanced against medium and long range tanks such as T-80, Leopard, and Abrams.
“Gaijin has been making bigger maps!”
Literally the last few maps have downsized (Sinai has gotten smaller, flank routes been removed, etc.), other maps are small and forced into a “three lane” map design (Attica), and others have just been small in general (the “1 to 1 scale of the Falklands” that is literally less than half the size of the Falklands).
Please, do everyone a favour and stop trying to piss us off.
@XxJax0NeinxX-live
Sinai has never changed in size.
Sands of Sinai shifted west staying the same exact size and opening up more of the open desert area, adding more flanking routes thanks to the CQC area being removed from the map.
Attica has a minimum of 6 routes, more than OG Sands of Sinai.
130x130km is a game engine limitation, and is still a huge map for the weapons we currently have in-game.
No one is trying to upset you. Sharing perspectives is an honest thing, and I’m not insulting you for sharing yours.
It would be huge if gaijin didn’t stick 32 players on it, while only utilising not even 1/2 of the whole map. But even then, there’s barely enough room to get anything but faster 3rd/4th gens up to their max speed, and they do still feel slightly too small in top tier sim.
Gaijin has neither been making bigger or smaller maps, but they do really love making CQC maps when we have plenty in game already. They are also terrible at designing maps in general, and they often have weird design choices that make them worse.
Well that’s something.
They make like 1 CQC map for every 3 - 4 medium to large maps, and that 1 CQC map is larger than the “medium” maps of 2016.
-
It was only huge when IR Missiles and short range SARH missiles were the strongest we had. Its been too small since the intro of ARH with the F-14 and especially mach 2 capable ARH slingers like the F-15 and Typhoon
-
Its a game limitation issue they could actaully resolve if they wanted to, apparently wouldnt be that hard.

Even if limited to 130x130, you can increase the relative distance between the 2 teams by having them spawn in opposite corners rather than at the edges, and especially dont have them spawn 10km in from the edge. For example, Falklands with air-spawn. “biggest map at top tier” and 60% of that space is wasted by having stupid spawn locations
say waht
I guess get ready for a battle royale mode in War Thunder
someones gunna get their chicken dinner tonight
IR missiles have a range of 2km. 2km is 1/65th the size of a 130x130km map at the shortest distance.
The longest range ARH missile [F90] has a range of ~90km against a non-maneuvering target at standard high altitudes fought in-game and significantly lower for the average altitude, and lower for maneuvering targets.
Killing an Abrams is a point and click adventure, nothing has to be balanced against it, it’s the bottom of the barrel. It doesn’t excell at short or long range, it doesn’t have the armor for it. Ariete is in the same boat and it’s worse.
Russian tanks and Leopards excell at both short and long range while everyone else can only do one or the other well (if at all) unless they have a Russian-like or Leopard.
Long range maps are the best since at least you can see what’s shooting you and have time to react, but even then the difference in what tanks are better than others hardly changes at all.
