Why are Strv 122s Scarry?

I’ve been playing the game for ~2 and a half years and ~4000 hours. I’ve only played Britain ground and have every tank researched. I’m just starting to play top tier/ 11.7.
I was wondering what the fuss of the strv 122s is. From what I hear they’re stronger and scarier than the Leo 2A5/6/7. But in wiki inspection, in game inspection, and wiki comparison they’re very similar. Is there something I missed? Should I be worried to see them/ worried to see them over Leo 2A5/6/7?

Strv 122 are by far the most annoying vehicles to play against, because the weakspot (where it used to be), the upper frontal plate (or chassis roof) is a impenetrable shield, you have to do a pin-point accuracy shot if you want to go there.

If not, the other weakspots are the same, lower frontal plate and that’s it. Frontally you have not much options to counter a Strv 122.

In other hand, Leopard 2A7 has a bit smaller profile, balanced armor and mobility with good firepower, it’s relatively better than the Strv 122 which has the main focus in protection but a weaker round if you compare them.

Thanks. It’s rare I shoot the chassis roof plate unless I can tell they’re on a down slope and I can blast it. I always Mantlet/ barrel otherwise. I don’t know/ don’t think that’s possible on the Leo/strv 2a5-7. (At least with L27A1)
Will idler shots work fine when they’re angled or does their thicker side composite shield that? I know they do on the native German Leo 2s with relatively bad rounds. (I’ve idler shot Leo 2a7s and similar with chally 2s stock round that is L23A1)
And about the ‘lower frontal plate’. I know they have the little composite wedges (like > a little) on the upper corner where LFP meets UFP of the composite chunk. But does it add enough to protect to restrict pen area to the LFP entirely?

When anlged, between the sideskirts and the chassis it’s a good option, and if I’m not wrong it can maximise the damage even if the target has spall lining:

See the red line as your line-of-sight. If you shoot too much to the right likely only disabling the engine, too much to the left likely only the taking out the driver and maybe the gunner but the commander still can control if the target is carrying less than 16 rounds.

Ok thanks for confirmation and image. Also to mention/ Note is it it was too much left/ right it could/ would break the turret basket/ ring. In fact, sometimes I aim for engine and turret basket shot if I’m unsure and or don’t have time to line up a kill shot.
Speaking of the hull ammo bin, when they updated the Leo 2 damage model they added armo to the hull bin. But it’s not there in armor parts or when hovered over. Same with Russian autoloaders. The light blue -gray armor render. How thick are they actually? Do they do anything? I’ve always wondered.

The ammo storage in the chassis has no armor values, is mostly aesthetics and reason why they say “We put so much effort in this thing that has no use in-game and you can only see at X-ray mode.” at the Dev Blogs.

Oh wow ok. I guess it’s the same for societ autoloaders too. Jeez. Thanks again! This community is awesome
