Why are helicopters so weak?

I don’t understand why a single APDS round from a 25 mm or 35 mm is capable of breaking the tail off. It seems like it should overpenetrate the aluminum skin, but instead it hits like one punch man and literally breaks the heli in two for an instakill. If one hits the fuselage, it arbitrarily disables the weapons and countermeasures, forcing you to attempt to fly back and repair immediately, and if the autocannon decides to fire multiple rounds, then your run is over, reduced to atoms, only one of the bubble copters could potentially make it out alive. I don’t care about getting nuked by HE rounds, that’s fair, and everyone has that available anyways, sometimes in proxy form. But I think heli damage models, particularly those of larger helis, like Mi-8, Mi-24, MH-60, etc should be more resilient, particularly those which lack CCIP (or any other method of aiming, since we get no gun funnel) and thus are reliant on extremely close range combat. Being kneecapped by a random Leopard’s 7.62 and forbidden from firing makes no sense whatsoever, and jets and props are still allowed to fire their weapons and drop bombs even after their plane has been utterly destroyed.

That’s mostly Gaijins complete inability to find a balanced middle ground, helis are either un-killable or useless.

this is mostly an issue for the helis that don’t have the “avionics blocks” the blocks control certain systems that go offline if the block is destroyed, however the helis that do not have this modeled (mostly the lower level ones that will actually get shot) just have a chance to lose systems when they get hit, regardless of the amount of damage the hit dose, so you can be completely disabled by a 7.62 round scratching the paint.

they are working on that.
