But yes it is Free 2 Play (but not everything). And Pay 2 Progress - with the Crews i’d argue Pay2Win a bit as well given how long it would take you to grind a Crew to free Ace w/o buying the Crew XP for GE.
If you cant afford things in the game that others can that isnt Gaijins fault. There are plenty of ways to make extra money if you wanted to buy premium time or premium vehicles.
Im not complaining, i spend like 400€+ on the Game so far lol
But i just meant that while it is Free2Play you do need in-Game currency to field most Stuff except for the reserve Vehicles and you can run out of it and then have to buy more or grind more, i didn’t meant it honestly/unironically that the Game costs actual Money. Was just a note to the SL cost of things
However some Vehicle do cost Money to unlock and aced Crews give an huge advantage so i’d argue in that regard kinda Pay2Win
F2P means that you get access to a high amount of content without paying.
It f2p untill you pass rank 3 verhicles which become expensieve and research.
Backups are free via warbonds shop. I’ve spent $0 on backups yet have over 1100 universal backups.
SL? Play more, spent $0 on SL.
The only thing you mentioned that is actual money is Premium Account, which is pay for faster progression and insured repair costs.

Been playing this game since 2013, and in 2013 it was FAR worse then than it was 2 years ago, and far worse 2 years ago than it is today.
I do not wish 2013 War Thunder onto anyone.
I only play today cause of continual improvements, however minor or major they are.
Did you expect the developers to work for free? There are real people behind coding this game and they need to eat. I don’t personally know if they are eating caviar and contemplating their new super yacht but I kinda doubt it.
More to the point, you absolutely don’t need a shit ton of real money. I got premium way discounted during the sale. I consider $30-60 PER YEAR to be very reasonable and you don’t even need to spend that - just spend maybe $30 on GE, get yourself a premium plane and a’ farmin’ SL you go, enough to get you over the hump. If you have enough time you don’t even need that.
I will say that people who have been playing a long time don’t know how good they have it. For those starting out, the days of 100k SL per match at lower BR are long gone. So… the grind is real but it’s your choice - time or a bit of cash.
BTW, the single best thing I realized early on was that you do not need to spend SL to repair planes. And if you can’t cover your ammo costs then you need to develop some basic skills - fly reserve until you do.

2013 wasn’t 2 years ago. Having started with the game, you grew and learned with it… Okay, you put up with it… when it was new.
Now the game is old, and is full of crusty old veterans who know everything about it but have no idea what its like to walk into the game today.

Knowing what was meta 2 years ago or further for attaining SL is obsolete today.
However, some things stayed the same.
RP stayed about the same: Ground targets, player kills, and bases for air RB.
Capping and general performance in ground RB.
Best vehicles are the ones you’re most comfy with.
Unless you haven’t ground out all the vehicles yet and don’t know what you don’t know about the game because its excessively obfuscated and complicated. Which was my point here.
The details of the game and whatever is optimum varies on a regular basis and wasn’t my point.
The information is freely available.
Vehicle grant you RP, on their stat-cards give you their effective research ranks.
What your most comfy with will grant you more score as you learn from rank 1 & 2.
It’s not complicated nor obfuscated.
Blind progression might be a thing in some games, but not in the vast majority.
Addendum; All of the rules and progression schema should be unrecognizably changed.
I’ve restarted the game 9 times since completing Japan.
So already did that.
And I’ll restart again when a new tech tree comes.
Ehh tier 4 can be tough but I enjoyed it as a f2p USA main.

“Free to play” has never been “Get everything for free” (money or time, there’s an investment either way), and as criticism goes this thread falls more into “give me free s***” than anything else.

If you aren’t paying to purchase the game to play it then it is free to play.
However you can if you want to buy vehicles, and it will be incentivized but is still optional.
