Which missiles for battle pass challenge

which planes/missiles are valid for the actual battle pass challenge (destroy 10 player vehicles by ATGm, AGm AShM)?

JAS39C and the AGM-65G. I had it finished in 6 Ground games (with some luck).

I hate top tier and my brain is on vacation right now. Any viable method doing it in, say, mid tier?

I’m not even sure mid tier has any options for AGM’s ?
I think the lowest BR you can get AGM’s is around 9-10 for most trees, there might be some exceptions but i’m not sure.

I’m not 100% sure, but Bullpups or AS-20 Nords might work. The Israeli Ayit and the German squadron Hunter both get AGM-65s at 9.7

Does Fritz X and HS 293 on battlepass bomber count as “AGM”?

Bruuuh I didn´t even know the Hunter has AGM-65. Will do it with this plane, thanks o7

When does the missile task start?

it has already started yesterday

as I know gaijin, they themselves don’t know what kind of rockets to use

N̶o̶, t̶h̶e̶y̶ a̶r̶e̶ g̶u̶i̶d̶e̶d̶ b̶o̶m̶b̶s̶, n̶o̶t̶ m̶i̶s̶s̶i̶l̶e̶s̶.

Edit:
I was apparently completely wrong here even though the game list them as bombs :P

The UK Typhoon with Brimstones was really good for this one

Kh-38MT on Su-34 if you have it. You can do the challenge in a few flyouts probably.

I’m quite sure that they are counted as missiles, as they have an engine attached to them. So they are basically guided rockets = missiles.

Unfortunately, the new Wiki doesn’t include weapons section. But we still have old Wiki (that is not updated anymore) and in Air-to-ground missiles section you can see:

List of MCLOS AGMs:

Ki-148 I-Go Model 1B

Which is a guided missile from 2.3 BR Ki-48-II otsu plane. Unfortunately, you can’t use the Ki-48-II otsu, because it’s a rank 2 plane. A long time ago BP challenges were changed and now they have to be completed in at least rank 3 vehicles.

Anyway, this missile works exactly the same way as missiles from He 177 A-3. This plane is also in the old Wiki, but weapons doesn’t have their sections. The missiles are still listed there as:

3 x HS 293 A-1 missiles

I’m pretty sure they would work, but the problem is, it doesn’t make sense to use them. I tried 2 battles to confirm they work, but because the He 177 A-3 bomber is huge, has a very high BR, in the first Naval battle I died from enemy AAA automatic fire. Then I tried Ground Realistic, it took me 3 kills to get enough points to get into this bomber (and some people say that in this game mode it’s too easy to use the plane) and then because I don’t see enemy markers, and I’m terrible in aiming with these missiles, I couldn’t kill anyone with them. So overall I had 2 failures and I don’t even want to try again. At this point it would be much easier to use a helicopter or higher BR plane with proper air-to-ground missiles. So I just gave up, I’m too bad to use these missiles effectively, and I’m just wasting time testing this. I don’t think this is a reasonable way to complete the challenge anyway.

Both “HS 293 A-1” and “PC 1400 X” are listed as guided bombs in the game:

That doesn’t automatically make them missiles (in the game). Same with the new AGM-130A-12 , as it is just a GBU-15 with a rocket booster.
Now i do not know how Gaijin (or IRL makers) decides what is a bomb or what is a missile. but the game at least list them as bombs.

It would be interesting to know if the above listed munitions actually count for the task or not, if anyone has tried it.

Well, PC 1400 is almost surely just a bomb. I talked about the HS 293 A-1, sorry if that was unclear.

The name of the weapon is just a translation from Russian to English. Old wiki translated this as “missile”, in the game it’s “guided bomb”. It doesn’t really mean anything.

You can see it still has “missile guidance time” property. This whole tooltip also look exactly the same like any other missile tooltip. Bomb tooltips look differently:

I’m not a Ground Realistic player, so for me it’s really hard, but if you are good in this game mode, you can check this and kill someone with HS 293 A-1 missile/bomb and see if it will count. I’m pretty sure it will, because we see this challenge for the first time, and we currently have the He 177 A-3 as a BP reward, so it would also make sense.

It has to, as bombs and missiles are treated differently for tasks and must have different labels in the game for that to work, so the naming should match and if it doesn’t then it should be reported and fixed.

Not really, look at the JDAMS or Paveway bombs, they also say “missile guidance time”:

I want to clarify that i do not know exactly what munitions will work for the task, i’m only going of the naming conventions. Additionally i have already completed it so i cannot test it.

It took me many tries, but I finally managed to get a kill with the HS 293 A-1 missile.

Because I don’t play Ground Realistic, for me it’s even hard to get 3 kills there (and you need that many to spawn the He 177 A-3 bomber). So I decided to get that kill in Naval Arcade. I really don’t recommend this, it’s really hard to do.

At first I tried to use the HS 293 A-1 missile from a longer distance, but this doesn’t work very well, especially enemies have very accurate automatic AAA, and at 6.3 BR many ships also use shells with the proximity fuse. I basically couldn’t hit anyone.

I changed my strategy and started attacking enemies at close range, using kamikaze tactics. First I hit Heavy Cruiser, but these missiles are not strong enough to kill it. Next battle I attacked Light Cruiser and again it survived with 13% of the crew left and someone else got the kill. Then I wanted to attack boats, but at this BR you barely see any boats. Fortunately I finally got a battle with 5.3 player destroyers (keep in mind you have to kill player vehicles, AI bots won’t work!). I managed to successfully kill a destroyer using all 3 missiles from a close range.

I successfully killed the Destroyer with HS 293 A-1 missiles:

And this is exactly why you shouldn’t be so sure about such statements:

It would be fine to write something like: “In my opinion, they probably won’t work, because they are named “guided bombs”, but I never tested this”. With how you wrote it, it sounds like you know they won’t work. But you are not correct.

So my way of thinking wasn’t that stupid after all ;). It just all made sense, so I was quite sure it will work. And that’s also why I wrote that I think it should work. I wasn’t 100% sure of course, but like 99% sure. They are missiles after all, even Wiki calls them missiles. I saw so many strange things in this game, that I wouldn’t be surprised if the Fritz X should have “guided bomb” in its name (it would actually fit it), and someone simply made a mistake and put it on the wrong weapon. But HS 293 A-1 is clearly a missile. This is a very similar missile to Ki-148 I-Go Model 1B, which has a missile in its name. You will never find consistency in War Thunder.

Honestly, it would make sense if at least problematic challenges had a button that listed the vehicles that allow you to complete the challenge. But in War Thunder even such basic things are too much to ask for.

I still don’t recommend completing this challenge using the He 177 A-3 bomber. But if you want a real challenge or you simply don’t have higher BR planes/helicopters, it’s possible.

Absolutely correct, thanks for pointing it out. I actually usually don’t state things so definitively exactly for this reason.

Thanks for testing it and telling us! ^^

This… really… just this Gaijin

So many battle passes have had unclear and ambiguous descriptions. It seems like a simple thing to show what vehicles/ordnance applies to a challenge. I mean, Gaijin knows as they’re awarding it, so why not just show the players? (i.e. as an indicator in research tree / loadouts, etc)
