You’re joking right? You think an Abrams or a merkava is better at taking hits and not dying, over 2a7’s and Strv’s with spall liners shrinking the spall cone massively basically turning the dart into an arrow going through the tank with little spall coming out to hit anything?
A spall liner works once and Leopards tend to bring more than 16 rounds of ammo, my FPE works twice and catch fire is a chance [Merkava], and my crew spacing + no ammo in hull works very well [Abrams].
You can take 16 rounds of ammo or less (and any player worth their salt does). But the Abrams has no spall liner, and a hydraulic pump situated right in the turret basket making a lot of shots disable the cannon drive. The Leopards hydraulic pump is in the back of the turret and is a lot harder to hit.
As for the Merkava I don’t know. And the Merkava Mk.2D isn’t in a great spot right now and I don’t care to grind out the tree at the moment.
As for the Leclerc it’s the fastest MBT at top tier, with the 2nd best reload. Most people don’t run ace crews at top tier so only the Type 10 can beat you. And you can beat a Type 10 with your superior targeting speed.
The thing is I’m comfy with 21, and I play where my lower hull usually isn’t shown anyway IF I make a play I know will show me to the enemy easily.
On top of that, people aren’t even comfy with 26 rounds let alone 16.
The last time I brought 16 I got Port Novo legacy and I fired 19 rounds [13 frags]. I had to rearm at the B point that shows you to the enemy team…
So yeah, expecting people to bring hull ammo is something I’ll do until people stop complaining about a tank that has 26 rounds maximum.
I recently spaded the 2A4NL which has the same ammunition situation and was able to achieve a 3:1 K:D while only ever using 16 rounds. Maybe it’s just an ammunition discipline problem for others, idk. But the added survivability is worth much more than ammo that I personally don’t need.
And even if I do need to go to a point to rearm and die as a result, that’s significantly more rare than how much I would be dying from getting hit in the hull ammo.
So I guess it’s chalked up to player skill issue or difference in playstyle as to why people bring more than 16 rounds.
But even then you can’t know how much ammo someone has before you shoot them so taking the risk to shoot otherwise empty space isn’t worth it if they end up not having hull ammo.
That’s the thing, there are 3 instances I shoot there: Driver, driver, idler wheel.
I’ve needed to stop Leopards for either myself or my team over a quarter of engagements, and it was better than shooting the turret or engine cause they’re down one crew member or dead from an ammo rack.
poor Ariete =(
it’s not that bad.
Yes, it has no armor. Yes, it has mediocre mobility but in the right hand is pretty good.
You only have to know how to use it
Surprised Ariete got the top spot here tbh, was expecting Challenger Merkava, or Leclerc to take the top spot, I can understand why people might say its bad but I think it all boils down to how you play it, unlike Challengers or Merkavas that have less flexibility and overall survivability (although the onion layer 5 on Ariete might be the worst of when considering the ammo layout and all)
AMV mobility is actually pretty solid, due to upgraded engine, but an awful armor (+not the best ammo placement) forces to play it as a light tank or a tank destroyer (glass cannon).
Still I like to play it even with its downsides.
CR2 BK is the best Challenger…Thats not saying a lot though.
Yes for Brit mains that can handle a slow, unarmoured lump with below average penetration and fire power and the slowest reload at top tier (after 4 shots)
Doesnt mean the tank is good just the players that struggle through it know how to use it.
People equate poor armour as the worst thing about them, they dont take into account it has topt tier firepower, great optics, it’s fast and as a 5 second reload.
Either of the challengers for me, worst round, 4 round ready rack with horrendous replenishment rate, slowst top tier mbt, mediocre armor, it’s just a discount leopard 2 with it’s only advantage being it’s ability to depress it’s gun while rotating it’s turret more than 90°.
Thats not enough though they will still be dragged up into top tier.
The true “top tier tanks” are the Leopard 2A7 (family STRV 122B+) the T-80BVM and T-90M (yes it has a crap reverse speed it also has more amour than god) Relikt being the broken mess it is in game.
The rest need buffs or fixes to be able to compete at those levels as equals.
yeah it would potentially help though since 10.3 and 10.7 get pulled up to respectively 11.3 and 11.7 so the Ariete would be able to feast on the T-72 Turms-T again along with a slightly higher chance of actually bouncing a shell
