I would like to ask some questions about which helicopters will be suitable for certain USSR and USA ground presets.
I would appreciate if you can share your in-game experience with those helicopters and ground presets.
First, USSR has 4 helicopters at the BR of 9.7. However, all of them has some flaws: for example the maneuverability of Mi-24V/P is poor, and the optics of Mi-8 and Ka-29 are not that good. All of them fire 9M114 missiles which can fly 5 kilometers, and Mi-24 and Mi-8 can carry additional R-60M and 9M39 air to air missiles.
The 9.7 USSR ground preset is pretty powerful with helicopter and T-64B, along with BMD-4 and 9P157. However, is it worth taking those helicopters into the 10.3 USSR preset?
For 10.7 and 11.0 presets, both of them will have only one tech-tree MBT at the top battle ratings of the presets, which are T-90A and T-80B. I’m not sure if those presets will have good performance in battles, and whether I should put the Mi-35M and Mi-28N or Mi-8AMTSh-VN in the 2 presets.
After the battle rating has been decompressed, a new 12.0 USSR preset has appeared, with Ka-52 and Pantsir-S1 acting as its core. Will it be competitive in combat?
For USA, the battle rating decompression formed 2 major presets of 11.7 and 12.0. I wonder which one should I pick between AH-64D and AH-1Z for 12.0, and whether it is worth researching the AH-64A to replace the AH-64 prototype in 11.7 presets.
Go for the mi-28 with LMUR’s, it’s supremely overpowered.
But only cringe people play effective vehicles, this is why I’m trying to make my first end of line helicopter the blackhawk in the basis that the blackhawk is cool as fuck.
I’m glad that I chose Mi-28NM instead of Ka-52 several months ago and I am currently enjoying the LMUR missile in PvE and Ground RB. But it is still hard for me to decide which helicopters to take in other USSR presets.
Use the apache over the ah1z. It flies a lot better than the ah1 when loaded and the aim9ms are not a massive upgrade as they have exceptionally limited range when launched from a helicopter. I would also suggest getting the TT ah64a over the yah yes.
Regarding your questions about Russian helicopters, for 9.7 I generally use the mi8 and sometimes the mi24v. The manoeuvrability of the mi24 is not great as you said, but it is still better than the mi-8. The reason that I tend to use the mi8 more is due to the far heavier armament it has. In order for the hinds to take r60s you need to give up 2 atgms for each r60 you want, while this tradeoff is not necessary with the mi8. You get 8 iglas which are quite good as aams, and then additional racks for rockets or gunpods if you want a better gun armament since the single 7.62 is not really good.
The mi24p is also fine to use and is functionally identical to the v with the exception of having a movable 12.7 mg in a chin turret, which is a tiny bit better against aircraft which is the main thing you are going to use your cannons/guns against. Rocket rushing is unfortunately not a very viable strategy anymore.
The 12.0 lineup would be viable but you are unfortunately going to get dragged up into 13.0/12.7 as you fall in the top bracket. Downtiers will be very rare. An 11.7 lineup would work well and the mi28 would be fine for that.
One issue I have is that barring the t80 series I do not think that russian mbts above 9.0 are very strong. You are paired with an unusable reverse speed and the longest reload of the br with generally bad gun depression and horrible gun handling. There were leaks of the T series getting better, far more competitive reload speeds but I don’t know what happened to them. If they went/go through the tanks would be a lot more playable.
Is the AH-64A worth using now considering the SPAA it’ll face (especially since it only comes with rockets stock)? I’ll have the AH-64D researched soon, but I’d rather not waste the SL crewing the A if I can just go straight to the D which starts with 4 hellfires at least.
Stock grind the important modifications for helis in arcade ground assault. It’s fairly quick, fairly painless and pretty reliable even with just rockets as long as you get a good map and stay out of sight of the AI spaa that spawn on the map edges.
No
The Mi-24V/P are strong on paper but they’re let down by the very poor optics and very limited RWR (which the Ka-29 and Mi-8 don’t even get at all)
If you want a Heli recommendation, go with the Mi-28N.
The Mi-35M has a really bad RWR and no LWS, it’s a bit of a sitting duck
I’d consider the Mi-8 if you really want Missile Approach Warning, LDIRCM is also kind of comical but the main threats are SACLOS SAMs, I don’t think either are worth sacrificing the 30mm chin gun for, which the 2A42 can actually hit targets reliably unlike most Heli guns
I don’t see why not, the Vikhr has always been an insane missile the only way I see the Ka-52 struggling is in full uptiers.
1Z
AIM-9Ms are that much better for self defense
the 64A will be better than the YAH
though whether it’s “worth researching” what is the same helicopter for some wing stub mounted Stingers is another question, if you plan on playing 11.7 a lot; go for it.
