Where Did the Money Go? – Thunder Tactiks Pack Concerns
Gaijin recently sold the Thunder Tactiks Pack (€3.99 where I live), which included:
- A Thunder Tactiks decal
- A Bf 109 F-4 skin
- An Sd.Kfz.234/2 skin
- 300 GE
I bought this pack with one clear reason in mind: to support War Thunder’s esports scene. I wanted to help tournaments grow, keep players motivated, and show that the community is willing to contribute to competitive play.
But since then, there’s been no new tournaments, no visible improvements, and no statement about where the money actually went. It feels like the revenue went straight into Gaijin’s pockets instead of being reinvested into the players, staff, and events that keep the competitive scene alive.
Where It Should Have Gone
If you’re going to sell something branded for esports, the money needs to go back into esports. That’s how you build trust and a sustainable competitive ecosystem. It could have been used for:
- Monthly Cash Cups – Regular, low-barrier tournaments with real prizes to keep competition active year-round.
- Seasonal Events – Like a Summer Cup open to all, with cash or Golden Eagle rewards to draw in both new and veteran players.
- Support for Staff & Admins – Bonuses or extra pay for the people who keep tournaments running smoothly.
- Team & Player Support – Helping established teams cover costs and giving newer teams a reason to step up.
Why This Matters
Reinvesting revenue into tournaments doesn’t just reward existing players—it grows the game:
- It attracts new competitors and keeps veterans engaged.
- It helps teams pay players and advertise themselves.
- It pushes the skill ceiling higher as pros train harder and innovate.
- It generates exciting, watchable events that keep the community buzzing.
It creates a feedback loop: better events → more hype → more players → more sales. Everyone wins—players, viewers, and Gaijin.
And This Is Just from One Pack
All of this could be funded from just one €4 pack. That’s what’s so frustrating—it wouldn’t take a huge budget, just the will to put part of the revenue back into the scene.
If Gaijin really wants War Thunder esports to thrive, they need to:
- Publicly commit a percentage of esports pack sales to tournaments.
- Actively run events that give players a reason to compete.
- Support grassroots competitions as an entry point for new talent.
I know this post might not get seen by the right people… but I hope—I really hope—something changes. Not for me, but for the players who grind, compete, and give this game some of its most exciting moments. A healthy esports scene would benefit the community and Gaijin alike.
