no, then we would have again a significant mechanic, ot implemented by Gaijin.
Even though the guidance system is way better than the radar lead indicator we have now in game
I would hope for the liberty M-113 SHORAD
(12 VT-1s on an M-113)
Or one of the SPAA Abrams proposals
Yeah, both ADATS need to be augmented with a dedicated SPAA system. Rather than a hybrid that means they dont get the SPAA SP Cost
I don’t know. I personally don’t think this is the solution. VT-1s kinda suck, and this doesn’t fix the big problem really, which is range. Also, what about the Radar? That’s another big thing. The Missile elevation/radar on the ADATS isn’t ideal for those high flying GBU dropping planes which is part of the reason why their is such a problem with the ADATS now (also because, well, why am I paying Medium Tank price for what is realistically a SPAAG?
No idea what you are talking about. The ADATS is probably the number 2 or 3 SPAA system and before the Pantsir was definitely number 1. It’s only real problem is that it is classed as an ATGM carrier, at which it is at best mediocre. All it really needs is to be properly classified as an SPAA with unique AT capabilities rather than currently with it the other way around.
They did that because when it was first added(classed as an SPAA), it was too cheap for the level Anti-Tank performance it had and ability to punish people rushing caps and spawns though ERA, and thus was very hard to deal with since it could lock down sight lines easily(allowing the more mobile western tanks to take advantage of flanking). and was far too efficient, it’s funny that SPAA / missile TDs that can kill tanks in other trees get BR reductions due to poor use(SA-22, SA-19, ZSU-57-2, ZSU-23, ), in the US tree they set new precedents and force Gaijin to revise mechanics (TOW-2B / MIM-146 / MGM-166)
The main issue as highlighted in the thread is that the US Tree doesn’t have many remaining Self-propelled designs, and fewer that that do not used ammo common to another potential platform and thus prom a practical standpoint, largely interchangeable (outside the AN/TWQ-1’s various mission modules, but is a separate issue, and potentially able to be refitted to other vehicles that use the turret). And of those remaining practically none that advance performance characteristics past what the MIM-146 is capable of outside the AIM-9X.
The only real options we have to go forward is really either
-
The various semi-static systems, and rethinking how SAMs will work, as even the MIM-23 or -104 cover a much larger area and later tend to be focused on other classes of threats or otherwise form batteries with multiple vehicles performing the requisite tasks to complete an intercept.
-
Or, to reduce the SP cost of Aircraft with pure A2A missile loadout(s) to take the place of them via CAP, which leads to other potentially significant issues considering the potential cost imbalance. But I do think this disparity is a significant issue that the metagame will need to overcome somehow.
Which is why the HVSD is the perfect addition for US and Israel Top-Tier.
12x 12km range SAMs, a Phalanx for guns and radar tracking, large, pure SPAA. Perfect for an ~11.3 SPAA for both nations. It’s a Pantsir with 6km less range
Maybe that’s how it used to be but if so the game has shifted significantly since then. I would be extremely skeptical that a first spawn ADATS would be very successful at all, never mind rushing to lock down caps, in the current meta.
They could also add the Humvee with Aim120s and aim9x configurations
They could, but it would require them to actually properly model 9Xs, Heat Seekers, and ARHs, which is a long way off. Plus even if they did, Manually guided missiles would be nice to have. Or at least like, a gun, something capable of close range manual targeting.
Again, (I know I’ve killed this point but) I’d rather see the M-SHORAD Increment 3 in game. It’d be nice to have.
A brief update:
I have managed to do more research on the Stryker MSL. It seems as though it was more of a demonstrator vehicle for AUSA 2017, with the further developments ending in M-SHORAD.
After doing more research on M-SHORAD, these are some more important things I have discovered.
The M-SHORAD has an MHR (Multi Mission Hemispheric Radar). The MHR is designed for VSHORAD operations, using an S-band Pulse Doppler Radar. It uses an AESA antenna with GaN Amplifiers, and, according to the manufacturer DRS RADA Technologies (I know I know not a source) it provides “unprecedented clutter handling” and multipath mitigation.
Not only does it have MHR, but also MX-GCS EO/IR, a sight system. It has IR and Electro Optical systems, as well as both Hunter and Killer Mechanics in the sight.
It also has IFF, if that means anything.
These are all the things that I’ve uncovered that I haven’t already talked about. Any questions/comments/concerns please let me know.
