Their engine sounds in the game don’t match the real ones. I’ve brought this up several times, but Gaijin just keeps ignoring it.
WTs sounds have been decades behind peers since the game released.
a small group of autists have on several occasions done a far better job with far less capabilites than gaijin on making WTs sound very good. Gaijin doesnt really have an excuse anymore, their slight tweaks every so often dont cut it.

Yeah, if modders can do it, I don’t get why Gaijin still hasn’t got it right after all these years.
Honestly i think the main two reasons are that the modders are much more passionate than gaijins devs and the modders dont have layers of bureaucracy stifling creativity, or at least as much (the amount of mods for games ive seen implode over meaningless drama over the years is staggering)
Gaijin uses AI generated images for profile pictures, textures and god knows what else, you dont see that from truly passionate teams much as they tend to actually do the work themselves.
Passion definitely makes a difference. Those mods show better sound is possible. I’m not asking for every tank to sound perfect, but a Leopard 2 should at least sound like a real Leopard 2.
a fair amount of the sounds are at least servicable. leopards are really bad offenders i agree.
I would also like a proper Merkava damage model. The armor is thick as fuck, and modules like engines and transmissions should absorb and mutilate ammunition.
Thickness < Armor composition and Geometry
Slightly Off topic, but I would looooove to have the whine of an APU modelled, even if the component is still non-functional, when watching combat footage of these big NATO diesels (especially the merkava) when idle, the APU (or something else, feel free to correct me) lets off a pleasant whine that i’d love to have in war thunder to add to the complexity of the engine audios.
Gaijin still uses the vehicle weight = armour level theory for the merkava (not for glorious russian vehicles though) so despite it’s weight being disputed, and at least 40% armour, it’s composite values are often in the negative which is amusing… no composite armour package should have a 0.25x effectiveness compared to pure RHA, it’s nonsensical
And AI sounds.

Yeah, I like that sound too. A deep diesel rumble with that whine you mentioned would add a lot to it. Would feel much more like a real tank.
The Merkava’s armour deserves a whole thread of its own lol. My wish here is pretty simple. Just make it sound like a real Merkava first.
Lol, as long as my Leopard sounds like a Leopard 😂
I’d like to know how good the Merkava 4’s armour really is too. I looked online, but couldn’t find reliable, detailed information. That stuff is usually classified.
One thing is clear though. With the engine at the front, there’s a limit to how much extra armour weight you can add there. Otherwise the tank becomes too front-heavy, which affects its balance and makes suspension design more difficult.
So I guess Gaijin gets the final say on this.
Wouldn’t bother, me and many others have been campaigning for years but they keep on nerfing it (roof composite turned to paper when LMUR added, imaginary turret components to nerf the ‘empty space’, etc).
Plus they won’t even give us the iconic ball and chain turret protection 😢
The doctrine behind Merkava revolves around the fact that there are very little usage of bridges/lack of difficult terrain in and around Israel that would require them to maintain a weight requirement (like jaoan and it’s type 10 for example), so that allows them to pile as much composite armour and tech like APS/extensive command and control kit on without worrying about being too heavy. So while we do not have many concrete figures, the weight estimations (and subsequent armour) are above what we currently have in game.
Furthermore the thickness of the in-game composite is incorrectly represented as it has the afformentioned very low KE multiplier, which is almost entirely up to dev discretion, so if they wanted to they could double the protection overnight for a more balanced MBT (which happened with the dev server MK4 LIC, and that’s why you’ll commonly see people bring that up, since the turret could actually stop a top tier dart like it’s supposed to lmao)
