What's Wrong with British Tanks?

the only popular gun tanks at 7.7 - 8.0 that dont have stabilisers are the M48, Leopard 1 and T54, a stabiliser is just nothing special at its current BR esp with the awful APDS

The answer you seek is

“British” end of! Nothing more nothing less.! Completely under powered, lack of shell damage! lack of mobility in a lot, easily penned by literally everything! easily damaged by a tree!! AAs so on so forth!!
oh I forgot - usually uptiered by 1 br!? making it pointless assuming that you might actually get a 4.7 match against 4.7’s that they claim are on par??

Kinda makes you wonder why anyone bothers playing the British Tech tree really doesnt it!" Can’t say I’m supprised really! No wonder most players in the Queues choose Russian tanks!??? could there be a reason for that?

A13 is electric traverse, not manual. The British also had some of the best electric traverse systems in the war.

We’ve had this discussion elsewhere.

There is simply an upper limit for degrees per second per wheel rotation even on high gear, which yes, was guess work based on numerous other vehicles of the era. Per wheel turn on high gear you’d be looking anywhere around 7-10 degrees, factoring on things like - balance, condition, slopes, weight.

Then the next problem is how many wheel turns can a gunner do per second. Which would be roughly around 2-4 depending on training, experience, adrenaline or fatigue. There’s also other factors like overshooting the target. You have to swap to low gear or slow your wheel turns for precise aiming.

I’m waiting for a response from a seller if any of the primary source documents for the Fox has the degrees per wheel turn on high gear. Though, I imagine it will actually be lower than even what it is now - with the debate turning back to how many wheel turns do we justify per second.

Honestly? I’d be fine with just removing the HVAP and dropping it back to 7.7. Let me just have a decent SPAA with my 7.7 lineup. Skink is shit.

Centurion, Caernarvon have no business being at 7.7 with how incredibly bad the ammo is performing. You get maybe 20% of the kills with these vehicles on well aimed shots as you would with pretty much any other ammo (besides HESH). Their lack of mobility and relative armor at 7.7 combined with the atrocious ammo should put them 7.0 or 7.3. Or at least give it it’s historically accurate ROF of 4 seconds. Or actually fix the ammo. Makes zero sense that the the 105mm APDS works very well but the 84mm creates far less spall/post pen than 20mm sabot and very often has less pen.

Shooting barrels or track with this ammo is completely pointless as it does absolutely nothing. It will bounce off a piece of paper if you angle it more than completely flat so even LV can require 4-6 well aimed shots to kill, having to snipe every single crew member individually since it does zero post pen damage.

You’d have to be crazy to do that, who would do such a thing to spade an entire nation

Me…

I’m quite happy with where they are right now, they seem to do fine, and the “lacking ammo” is more than made up for with high velocity shells being easy to aim, and a 2 plane stabilizer. Also armor on the caernarvon is wonderful. At least the hull which is the main weakness of the centurion mk 3. It even retains similar mobility to the centurion

What difference does a stabilizer even make when you are driving 5 mph everywhere? Most tanks without Stab are pretty easy to aim on the move at those speeds.
I will say Caernarvon is far better than the Centurion…Caernarvon mobility is awful vs Centurion’s downright atrocious…and Caernarrvon is far more survivable (most light tanks deal with bad shots better than Cent).
Even if Cent was 7.0 I’d still take a M46, Panther II, AMX M4, T-44-100, over it 10 out of 10 times. Even give my pretty much any 6.7 tank over it if it was 7.0.

I do it for every nation.

I’m just wondering how you are not enjoying the British tree, plenty of gems. Now that you’re up to 8, you’ll now be getting to some fantastically fun stuff like the Falcon. Keep going. Love the British tree.

8.7 where it rules

Well I’ve actually spaded everything up to 10.3.
Still don’t like them. There are some nice ones like the Concept, Olifant, Rooikat and the FV4030 event tank which is damn good. But generally most of them are inferior to all the other nations and below 8.3 they are a rather painful.
Just my opinion.

Fair enough. I typically see most complaints about the British tree based solely around the Chall 2. Seems like the tree just doesn’t fit your preferences / style.

I have a question. I know it’s not a tank per se, but why the hell can’t the Stormer HVM shoot down aircraft at less than 2km away? According to several websites, the minimum distance would be 300 meters.

IRL the system has auto guidance and accounts for the difference between the boost and glide phases, in WT you gotta do that yourself, which is quite hard.

Yeah, 8.7 is good, too. Chief Mk.3/5/Vickers. Falcon/ZT3A2 work just as good in that lineup, too. I mainly first spawn Falcon, so I just play 8.3. Then you have the lovely Chieftain Mk.10 at 9.0. Too bad they added to the 9.0 lineup… with… the Badger. Of all things they could have added.

It’s the same old thing, gaijin and his laziness when it comes to doing things even minimally right. It’s horrible that developers give Br values depending on whether they model the vehicles well or poorly.

Even harder with how often the HVM changes per patch. Sometimes it has worked okay, other patches you can’t hit anything. Once they added SPAA such as the Strela, there is little reason to use HVM.

That’s another thing, when something doesn’t go right, they add vehicles from other countries that take up the space of the vehicle that they forget to correct.
