People forget that Leopard I being at the same battle rating essentially is the same vehicle without the 20 mm coaxial autocannon, similar mobility, gun handling and better ammunition however both lacks dual-axis stabilization and armor as a whole for the guns it faces at that battle rating. AMX-30 early versions may be and surely isn’t newbie-friendly but is far from a bad vehicle. The fact that all AMX-30 early versions is installed with a stereoscopic rangefinder and late modifications with a laser rangefinder tells you a story—This isn’t the usual frontline vehicle, play as a Leopard I, behind and using the gun as the main tool to keep you alive; in summary, it’s a sniping tank exclusively, or ambusher if the map suits this tactic.
As other players have mentioned, the AMX-30 is practically the same as a Leopard 1, so if you play it the same way, it should perform just as well. The only problem is that the AMX-30 relies solely on HEAT rounds, which in the game are very inconsistent in terms of damage. On the other hand, in reality, HEAT rounds were very good and accurate, proving lethal to any vehicle they encountered until the arrival of the T-64.
compression moment honestly. I’m pretty sure the AMX30 could use an adapted sabot round, i think derived from dm13 apds, but since it doesn’t have that the clovis / df is just a better option.
HEAT attacks are also more random, so if you can avoid HEAT attacks, you should, and that’s why the Leopard 1 would be better, because of the more consistent damage from the APDS.
