What's the point of the AGM-154 JSOW?

No terminal guidance, heavier than the JDAM-ER, and equipped with the same warhead while aircraft carry less overall. So why was it added?
Its main real-world advantages are stealth and extended range. The former isn’t modeled in-game, and the latter is effectively irrelevant since the JDAM-ER already has more than enough range for every current map and game mode.
They even gave it a unique icon and placed it high in the modification tree, as if it offers any meaningful advantage over the JDAM-ER.

it was added as base for the guided one maybe or stationary ai targets

i think in war thunder its like very slightly stealthy
not that stealth really works in war thunder

stealth is complicated and doesn’t work invisible to radar in real life its like a plane covered in chaff but at close ranges its still visible

stealth is like a plane covered in a material designed to attract radars?

you get the point of what Im Trying to say

nothing other than the f117 and Comanche have stealth modeled, all aircraft and ordnance, even tiny rockets and bombs get detected at max range. With proper stealth modeling the front aspect of an agm154 should be so small that radars in game should only detected it at a few km, actually giving it a purpose as an anti spaa weapon

In its current implementation? I don’t think there really is a point. The L/JDAM-ER is available on all the same aircraft that the JSOW is available on, and will perform better in just about every situation. Reduced RCS for the JSOW would make it slightly more useful, but as it stands its just a GPS guided 1000lb class weapon with a 500lb warhead that was intended for FMS sales.

It really needs it’s IR seeker added (which has the window for it on the model btw) and RCS modeled to be viable. What goes on in Gaijin devs minds when they added it, i have no clue…

Only the AGM-154C variants have the IIR terminal seeker, which we don’t have in game yet. The window is on the model because the JSOW uses a common body, with only the internals changing between variants.

I meant basically replacing the A1 with the C model

I think it would be better if the base JSOW-A version was added, as it would fill a role that no other weapon in game could. I personally wouldn’t use the JSOW-C over Stormbreakers, but would absolutely use the JSOW-A. I also haven’t seen any documentation that states that the JSOW-C IIR seeker is capable of locking onto tank-sized moving targets.

Which is something only the Hornets and F-35B/C use

Nor is there any evidence the IIR seekers of the KH38, AGM-84, Hammer and LS-6 can do that but that didn’t stop Gaijin
