As far as we know currently, it could end up being a full replacement, or an upgrade to the 2a8, just gotta wait and see. To be brutally honest the Strv 122A and 122B is much, much better than their derivatives, and for their era, the top of the top, now, modern eras it’s no longer “on par” with the 2A8 or other MBT’s with better FCS’s.

2A8 does have APS advantage, not sure if it comes standard or is just an optional thing
That being said, theres a chance that they’ll change their mind and buy more tanks or upgrade them a more instead of just improving the gun

they are better then the first block leo 2a5s yes, but germany upgraded the leoaprds over time and replaced the internal armor blocks to same /higher standards, 2a5/6 are only missing the add on armor. Gajin just ignores stuff like that, only russia gets upgrades that makes the tank upgrades from their initial production variant
Well, considering that it wasn’t built in an operational standing, it shouldn’t be added. But, Udes XX-20, it would be awesome.

standard, the whole points of the 2a8 is the APS system, further upgrades include LWS as part of the APS system
New engine (PSO one) to offset the added weights
Roof armor
Possible RCWS that ones not sure yet, but very likely for drone defense

Yes, most definitely an optional thing, that in fact, Sweden helped work on, with trophy APS.
As for the buying and upgrading, it will definitely happen, as Sweden has already released its not just going to be a gun upgrade, but optics, and FCS upgrades, I have no clue what else, but there is a full list of already, obviously to be continually changed and manipulated to their thoughts, uses, and needs.

btw we got an open suggestion in the same style, it makes the 2a6 an 2a7v without the ACU system.
