You say? Why would it be handholding? Cause the Rafale and Eurofighter will still dominate in WVR and be competitive in BVR too. Depends on the platform that the 120D will be on. The EX might be able to be there on par with both of them. The Su-30SM2 will still win by the sheer number of not bad R-77-1s, if the EX does not receive the 14 pylon which it won’t probably. Depends on how they would integrate the EX. It might not be the EX afterall. It might just be an F-16 or F/A-18 which then would be fairly ok cause one had 6 missiles and the other is slow as shit. The Strike eagle was not viable for a tad bit now. The Golden Eagle was meh to begin with.
TL:DR
I don’t see handholding right now, as i have no idea what platform will employ the 120D, or even the 120Ds capabilities. They might just butcher it anyways
The thing i hate the most is now that other nations have these hybrid AESA radars american jets is basically SOL as to my knowledge not a single US aircraft is in operation with a high off boresight radar like that
The closest thing is the super hornet with its AESA pointed upward which barely gives it a 90 degree FOV when you roll towards the contact but for obvious reasons that isnt comparable to the others and definitely not to the SM2 that radar is just on a completely different level
Literally no one was asking for a aim120D. No idea on why they would add it when every aim120 is currently underpreforming and not by a small margin. If they fixed the current aim120’s they wouldn’t need to add aim120D’s to make US top tier competitive
Fixing current 120 is a bit of a problem because it is an armament of a wide array of aircrafts from 13.0 to 14.7. Buffing 120C would be a decent option because it only exists at very top brackets, where AMRAAM carriers actually require buffs. But i guess Gaijin wants to just make a whole new missile to fight powercreep.
To be honest, it’s already been said that the F-15CGE and Super Hornet won’t receive the 120D yet (although they might). This means the F-16 will most likely be the launch vehicle, which won’t be a deciding factor due to the availability of six missiles. And judging by the forum, people are already asking for both the Meteor and MICA NG (do they want 16.0 BR right away?). Furthermore, the PL-12A will, at best, add 5-10 km of range (the missile will be above average for ARH missiles) in game conditions.
P.S. Why not add the I-DERBY?
UPD: but if they give us the F-15EX or RMP, then it will be a different story.
Amraams are like the worst missile at toptier man the 120D would actually even the playing field since the r-77-1 is in game and that is just better than the amraam overall
Странно, но исторические носители aim - 120d как раз таки и были super F/A-18C/E, F-15C MSIP II / F-15E Strike Eagle и F-16 поздних модификациий. Интересно узнать откуда вы взяли информацию, что они не получат такое вооружение?
Yup, I was debating on mentioning that but i decided not to. I think they wont add true 2 way datalink because implementing retargeting in a game like this will be difficult especially when you are engaging multiple targets.
The CM disclosure mentioned that the Aim-120D will make its appearence on a new jet variant, it hasn’t been confirmed wether the F-15 GE, Strike Eagle etc. are gonna receive it, but as Smin always says, it’s subject to change and tbf @_AMI said it as well.
I mean we kinda have two-way datalink already as you are able to see where your missile is and where the target it’s tracking is (at least in arcade/rb)
