So basically, its rare case scenario when i launched it, F-4 was pretty close to F-20A. It could mess with radar lock somehow? But in the other hand 7P is not ARH missile to hard lock a target and track it for itself. It tracks for reflected radar waves from main radar so its basically imposible to this rocket to glide directly to F-4 for no reason with a seeker in TRK for entire flight. It could have with me locking into F-4 then cancelling it and missile flying in IOG+DL in standby for another hard locked target but for entire flights F-20A was hard locked
CC @Gunjob technically (to my knowledge) DL only works during mid-course. During terminal phase the missile switches to SARH.
Missile should not be able to change targets on active lock.
Missile should not be able to change locked target in terminal phase (might be same for mid-course but I do not have clear info on this).
Missile should not be able to go haywire during active lock in any stage.
This should be the case for both AIM7P and R27. What I have found in game is that you can change locked target during terminal phase and the missile can go haywire and track friendly even during active lock. As far as I know tracking should only fail if the defender successfully evade the aggressor and not so much the “missile” as the missile beam rides and updates from the aggressor.

How it should work. Most SARH and DL missiles do not do what they are supposed to, to an extent ARH as well but ARH is broken enough without having to give them actual capability.
But IR, SARH & SARH+DL needs rework cause right now, they either do not what they are meant to or they do some mythical over powered stuff.

Running some tools I have manipulated my network to see how the game and servers perform since the desync bugs. I have found a minor correlation on latency and stability in missile action but in this topic it does not affect at all.
Latency and desync mainly affect hit registry and ability to launch. Same goes for ground munitions. Have not found anything affecting tracking.

They are very slow, constantly lose the target, sometimes I fly up to the target point-blank and my missile is still flying. They used to be good, in general when they added AIM-7 they played like AIM-120, you could launch them from 20 km away.

Yet again look at his, another hit this time to enemy at least. Full lock on F/A-18 but missile 1 second after launch locks on F-4S by itself and goes pitbull without hard radar lock. Identical situation with missile goes crazy. Basically SARH missile goes pitbull in TRK mode for its target while it should be in IOG+DL mode because of no radar lock what so ever ? @Gunjob Can you explain ?

From the Sparrow’s pov, you have a target locked, in the sense that some target is being irriadated sufficiently and within the tracking parameters (I think it’s just closure rate) given to the missile. While not visualized in the sensor view, sadly, the Phantom is being irradiated by your radar’s sidelobes (which extend basically in all directions). I don’t know how Gaijin has modelled sidelobes exactly though.
Why it specifically switched to the Phantom, idk. It seems odd just looking at the pictures. What I can tell is that the Sparrow didn’t seem to like tracking the Hornet off the get go (it remains in IOG+DL), but I am not sure if that is due to a guidance delay (missile spreadsheet lists no value) or if the lock quality was not ideal.
Watch replay for yourself. First was pretty simple to explain because of proximity of another target. But in this case its just weird. It feels stupid to score kills like that. With ARH missiles it is simple but with SARH ? How It can track on sidelobe wave with my radar hardlocked on another target ( at least at the beginning ). Instead it went straight for F-4S even when I maintained lock for a few sec and then lost it, it still tracked F-4S like PRH/ARH missile would do
Yeah ok this is just really strange it went for the Phantom. Because as far as I can see, the Phantom really does not look like a more favorable target than the Hornet initially. The Hornet was pure head-on, while the Phantom was slightly to the side (lower closure rate, while even being slower as well). No chaff (which pretty much stop working almost instantly in the headon anyway) involved yet as well… strange.
You never lost lock from the Sparrow’s pov at least. You maintained an inertial lock with your radar when the Hornet was notching, all this time your radar is still in TRK (MEM) mode and emits the required signals for missile guidance. This still allowed your Sparrow to maintain track.
I can’t explain why it chose the Phantom though.

DL only functions in game if the seeker isn’t tracking, so any aircraft that’s caught in the illumination cone that the seeker can see, it will track, regardless of the IOG/DL and the designated target by your radar.
So the IOG/DL only kicks in when the seeker can’t see any target. If it can see any target illuminated by the radar it will track that.
