I’ve seen in some places that the AGM-114K has a range of 1200 yards, plus or minus 10-11 km. What would be the reason for it having a shorter range?
Whether it’s launched from the ground, fixed-wing (e.g. Reaper), or rotary wing (Apache), whether it has a frag sleeve or not (4lbs heavier, more drag), then considerations of the power of the laser system used to guide it, laser scattering in the environment the launch platform operating in, and the quality of laser reflections/returns on the types of targets it’s meant to engage.
In a hover at sea level, the range of AGM-114s are 8km.
At higher altitudes they can increase, and when moving ~150kph forward their range can reach 11km.
However, Gaijin has dismissed by reports on this matter due to no concrete statements.
