What is the best dogfighter for guns only dogfights and why?

Ok and in practical game play this is irrelevant which is the point.

based

clueless

Typhoon at the moment maybe. Rafale has the better gun. But Rafale is getting buffs so will probably be that soon

Are you allergic to dogfighting or something, there is a whole community dedicated to it on war thunder.

Gun only fights have been a staple in this game since it’s inception and an aircrafts individual dogfight performance is in no way ‘irrelevant’

most people are unskillbased and rely totally on missiles and cant get gun kills

Very true

hence why i play 8.0 to 11.0 as its gun on gun

If the Harriers were modeled even remotely correctly they would be the best dogfighting planes at 9.7.

Even the 12.0 ones would be extremely strong.

The only way a fighter would even be able to beat it is by remaining supersonic but the harrier would likely outlast that aircraft due to its superior combat endurance times and the opposition fighter needing reheat to maintain high energy states.

The Harrier would have an advantage in the low speed low altitude range. Even against the EFT in a specific but small window.

This is only if the Harrier was modeled correctly ofc it still needs a buff in STR ITR, time to speed, time to climb and max speed, also VIFF has no practical modeling in game where as IRL it can generate Achievable AOA in the effect of 45 degrees up to Mach .4 or so.

As it stands the 9.7 Harriers are missing about 2G in ITR and STR and VIFF is not modeled in war thunder. Therefore they are actually terrible as a gunfighter and should be avoided.

If they get fixed they would slap anything dumb enough to go below 15,000 feet at less than .7 Mach.

Euro fighter for 4th gens/top tier.
J-7E for 3rd gens/earlier supersonic planes.
Mig-19 for 2nd gens/earliest supersonic planes.
Ariete for fully subsonic jets.

why does the eurofighter turn so well ??

Canards+delta wing and the powerful engines prevent too much energy loss from happening.

but shouldnt the j10a beat it since it has canards delta wiing and thrust vectoring nozzles

J-10B TVC (tech demonstrator) is the one with thrust vectoring WS-10B, the J-10A still uses a russian engine so it falls behind in TWR

the russian engine is the same as the flanker so shouldnt it have it stock

Think the f16 adf might give em a run for there money if it’s just pure dogfighting?

Not really, it lacks the pure low speed performance to keep up with the deltas and delta-canards

Iirc F-16s have better ultra low speed handling to the delta-canards. So if they energy trap their opponent they could win. But just don’t go low and slow and the delta-canards would be fine.

Eurofighter by a good margin, the people telling you Rafale also believe that the Eurofighter suffers, so do with that what you will.
