What is going on Warthunder?

I think as a community, we need to look at what Warthunder was and what it has become.

I remember my high school days, when I didn’t have a penny, and coming home after a long day was comforting. Amazing vehicles, a huge variety of them, and players playing them to their abilities.
And now here I am, after spending insane amounts of time and money, I’m starting to realize certain things. Now the games are premium versus premium. I’m not going to complain, since I have several, but what the heck are we doing always “fighting” against the same vehicles over and over again?

Not to mention the insane compression we have in certain tiers, especially in air RB that make it difficult, if not impossible, to have a good game. I repeat, not having many kills makes the game fun; sometimes it’s quite the opposite. Also the rigged matchmaking, which is becoming increasingly evident and has already been “confirmed” by a moderator of this forum. What’s the point of spending hours and hours trying to understand the game when, after having a good game, you’re put in an uptier, with people more experienced than you, and after losing several times, you suddenly have a “super easy” game?. And if you stop playing for a few weeks, the first few games are extremely easy again. Doesn’t that make you think?

And guys, fix the scout drone, it’s been “broken” for several months, something that would have been unthinkable for you a few years ago.

I know I’m useless, I know I’ll probably never stop being one, I admit it, it’s in my DNA. But if a useless person like me realizes this, it’s clear I can’t be the only one. Warthunder is my favorite game, it’s practically a part of my life for better or worse, and that’s why I don’t want it to disappear.

Have a nice day!

Gaijin decided that it would be a good idea to turn this game into CoD with aircrafts and tanks because that what makes the most amount of money.

No teamplay
No balancing
No rewards for objective playing
But limited rewards for kills and bases so everybody will act greedy to get kills or bases.
Introduction of unrealistic “new/noob player friendly” features are proof of that.

Premiums are basically neccesary to grind in ground.

Your max base rewards for a well played match is about 5k RP, 10K with premium, 15k with premium time and spawning premium vehicles, which usually means you want at least 2-3 similar or same BR vehicles which some nations cant even do.

Now imagine your next vehicle is 300k rp, and these numbers for RP is when you get like 5 kill at least matches, your average game is more like 3k/6k/9k RP.

Air grind pretty much 2x-3x faster.

make drones give rewards make scouting give better rewards same with map marking add an rp increase if you are in a squad make objectives multiply rp add laser designators to drones or light tanks (for use of guiding multiple laser guidded missle at once

People think premium vehicles are the only way to grind quickly.
I play tech tree vehicles primarily, and I’ve slowed down playing in the last year, I still have completed 2 tech trees despite playing less, and my average was 2 hours a day prior to that.

Fixing something like scouting is a major update thing, that’ll take time as the bug report is 0 major updates old.

2.7 ground, and 9.3 air are the only real nasty compressed BRs in the game. 13.0 is a bit compressed as well.

@AXCHNEER
Well, I play War Thunder, and War Thunder does have rewards for playing the objective: Higher frags, capture points, etc.

It’s also rather balanced.
And of course War Thunder is the most realistic game on the planet, which is why I play it.
Other devs are anti-realism on some features and that ruins the experience for everyone.

Bro you gotta trim this one. Everyone knows this one’s obvious today; You would need a more obscure way.

No such thing.

Without saying names so many other games has taken a similar trajectory and well, let’s just say, those games eventually died when the new player base got bored and the old player base got chased away in favor of changes for the new player base.

Been gaming since 1995 and WT is about to join the “never to be touched again” shelf. The reason why I got onto WT no longer exists in game.

it has always been like this. D-13s, P-47Ms and premium spitfires ruled the skies

Can’t be, game modes haven’t changed since 2013.

The SEAD mission gives me some(!) hope that Gaijin understands that the game modes need updates…rather sooner than later.

Other than that, War Thunder needs a lot of corrective actions regarding balance, matchmaker and br compression, but the core underneath it with the vehicles, damage models and so on is solid.

I can deal with stale game modes as we have been doing that for years (almost all arena based shooters). What I can not deal with :

Immersion breaking : Fighting WW2 tech against Cold War tech, etc along with environment.
Map Design and Object placement : 3 lane or 5 lane shooters where watching spawn exit makes me feel like I am doing DOTA pubs - I have a brain, let me use it. With that comes the floating terrain and misplaced hitboxes.
Disregard for vehicle design & doctrine : Lets put everything into a CQC brawl and then change BR by vehicle efficiency - WT
Balance VS Nerf : Nerfing down a single aspect does not balance the game. (IR seekers, IR signatures, munitions, vehicle BR changes, RADAR, vehicle additions, map red zones, +++)

Yes, agreed.

But that’s what I mean with corrective actions and we’ve seen some positive changes in the past with larger maps as well.
We’ve also seen negative changes with small maps or CQC maps in higher and top tier…as long as that keeps a loose balance, that’s fine with me.

dont play GRB, problem fixed.

GRB is just a fundamentally flawed gamemode, and is atrocious, miserable and frustrating. Just dont touch it.

Shrinking maps and reducing match timers has been a disaster for this game. It’s starting to feel unrecognizable.

I used to think having to chase someone down and ground pound for 30 minutes was the worst thing in the world in Air RB when the match timer was like an hour, but I’m starting to realize it wasn’t bad now that all matches barely last 20 minutes. Not to mention I also miss the somewhat historical matchmaker.

Don’t even get me started on the shrinking Ground RB maps and forced urban CQC brawling. Of all the new maps added recently Flanders is probably the best, but that’s not saying a lot considering its competitors are; Seversk-13, Seversk-13 v2 (Test Site-2271), Sweden, Western Europe (North Holland), Golem Quarry, Space Port, Cargo Port, Alaska, American Desert, and Abandoned Town. It’s even more insane that you can get all these maps in top-tier, what happened to the maps specifically made for MBTs like Fulda Gap and Red Desert? They’re practically non-existent now and if you do get them it’s the shrunk down version.

I don’t play this game because I want to smash planes together in full-commit head-ons on the deck or play bumper-car tank-jousting in Summoner’s Rift, but if I did it would seem that Gaijin is trying to cater to me instead of the people that have played this game for over a decade.

Useless people are the most valuable players to Gaijin …they do what they do in hope to frustrate you to the point where you will go and buy to make game “Easier” …
