What is Gaijin's beef with game modes?

Games usually have more than a few game modes but it seems Gaijin is totally opposed to introducing any other types of game modes? I really do wonder why that is…?

Battlefield games have less game modes.
Instead of attack & defend that can’t work with armor, War Thunder has PVE game modes.

War Thunder’s PVE game modes also can’t be expanded without a better AI which they’re working on; and I support more PVE game modes.

I’m still waiting for the tanks-only-mode bro

Given consideration of the state of the assault arcade modes, I would like to think they are going to improve on the ai and modes, but thus far I have seen little to no effort on their part. No discussion in our other forum posts specifically established for those modes by the powers at be either… was there a recent post that they discussed that they are working on better ai?

I try to keep up to date on their news but many things can be missed depending where they were posted.

Several years back we ‘tested’ a convoy type coop mission, but nothing fruitful was gained from that as far as I can recall either…

Really couldn’t care less about PvE I want more variety in PvP. There is endless opportunity

Problem is queue time. No other game has so many matchmaking modes and other divisions. I’m referring to the BR system, multiple servers, game modes, and choice processing such as night battles. These have an exponential effect on queue times, so logically Gaijin doesn’t want to stretch the playerbase too thin.

Understandable, however there are those of us that do care about the PvE modes as well. All aspects need more variety.

There is no endless opportunity in PVP. The game modes we have are the game modes all PVP games use for a reason.

Every single time without exception that any dev tries to come up with something better, it fails compared to the ones that are proven.

That is actually a solid point but i would say we have like 30 second timers right now. No shortage of players but idk the inside numbers.

I disagree. Combined arms with a big player count… Realistic air with respawn… maybe a historically accurate air playlist. There are options.

I also dream of a realistic air battle with respawns.

You are correct.

1- There are other games for this, one of which is Enlisted.

2- This is PVPVE and requires a new AI. It also requires a change to the rewards system that already exists in EC. Spawn/repair costs cause losing teams to leave early. And right now there’s no punishment for Jing out compared to dying to another entity.
The latter is fixed by changing the 20:80 reward punishment to 40:60 for crashing/Jing out, and 5:95 for dying to other assets.

3- This one was already tried and failed. This one fails every time whenever devs do it because historical reenactment is niche. Most games that are popular that do historical reenacting are arcadey to bring in more people. Because realism on top of historical reenacting is even more dead as a game concept.
Most historical reenactors don’t care about realism, and most realism fans don’t want to reenact history.

No i’m not asking for PvPvE no where did i suggest that. Gaijin should be paying you lol

Gaijin should be paying their critics? K.
A respawning air mode is air Enduring Confrontation, there’s no other method to allow unless you make ~15 - 20km radius around airfields instant death zones for enemy players and that’s not a good idea; so that leaves air EC which is a PVPVE game mode.

Respawning game modes are my preference.

I mean I think we all are wishing they make some AI changes, but let’s be honest, is there any empirical evidence that Gaijin is working on fixing this? From what I’ve experienced in a few months of playing sim (This is just an example btw), as well as talking to frequent, long time sim players, the gamemode has been in a state of disrepair for a while now–over powered AI SPAA, stupid AI planes that crash while taking off or landing, etc. And it’s been like this for years.

Wishful thinking doesn’t mean Gaijin will stop adding shiny copy and paste tanks and start fixing the damn game.

They focus more on adding vehicles, weapon systems, graphical updates, economy, map changes because it’s what brings them money.

I disagree with their priorities but this is what they and along with it, the majority of the player base deem to be okay.

Warthunder has so much potential to be more than what it is currently. Right now it’s only known for it’s vehicular combat and nothing else. I wish WT can move in the direction where teamwork/tactics is emphasized.

I dislike the COD like feel of the game.

AI overhauls take over 3 years. DCS’s took 3+ years.
Gaijin announced the beginning of an AI overhaul in late 2022. It was changed to an all-encompassing overhaul in 2023.
It added infantry sometime between then and April 2025.
So the new AI has to control tanks, planes, helicopters, ships, infantry far easier and better than the current AI.

They’ve explicitly talked about AI development over 6 times from then to present.
AI development is the most labor intensive part of simulators, and thus the most expensive and time consuming.
Patience is required.

Copy-paste is minor in War Thunder, fixes occur constantly.

The cheaper additions pay for the expensive development ideas.
The new replay system was one of those expensive development ideas that objectively makes no money; but it does make bug finding easier.
