I think raising the skill floor on using aircraft would make GRB more enjoyable across the board.
I use aircraft in GRB because it’s just the nature of the beast as far as playing the game goes, but I have top tier tanks and A/C collecting dust because once you get to guided munitions its untenably annoying to me.
Having had to use a TGP or buddy-lase in DCS, seeing the wildly simplified point-click interface of Warthunder makes it that much worse.
Tanks are contained in a tiny postage stamp with arbitrary boundaries… unmarked RETURN TO THE BATTLEFIELD or your tank blows up… but those 3 helos can hide behind hills 10km out while a couple jets too high to even see rain down pinpoint accuracy munitions.
Why not at least remove the ability for aircraft to also have omniscience in 3rd person? How many times have you flown over hidden tanks and heard their engines give away their position?
It’s a minor change that would have a significant impact on the balance/fairness of tanks vs. aircraft… would you still play if the change was made?
While I find first person flying quite enjoyable, I do not think it is justified or needed for realistic battles.
We need to make ground sim actually playable instead. The only reason I think it’s not played as much as RB is because you cannot. The lineup system is awful - if I want to play a specific tank or lineup, I can only do it once/week (for some tanks, it can be twice per week but that can include very bad balancing). That’s terrible for actual gameplay.
Ground sim for pre-modern munitions would significantly reduce CAS effectiveness due to the skillfloor required in actually flying a plane, keeping it coordinated in a dive and releasing.
Agreed, and I would gladly move back to Sim (my squadron was FRB only back in the day before design decision gutted the player base and everyone fled to IL-2 or DCS)
Sure but tanks would need to do the same. You only get to view from the gunner or commander’s positions. No more peaking around corners without pushing them. And at that point, you’re playing Sim battles. I don’t have an issue with this mainly because I enjoy Sim but GSB are aboutnas dead as Naval.
Tbh, I feel the reason aircraft in ground have such easy time is because of the awareness advantage they have over tanks. It’s very easy to pinpoint where AA is, equally moreso with the addition of the targeting marker being able to set with the map.
Being someone who plays a lot of AA and also does play CAS, I can say that if planes had reduced awareness they’d be much easier to counter. Third person view in planes is just so powerful in regards to how much awareness it gives you. This could honestly work.
I mean, I would hope so. They’re above the battlefield. But so do tanks comparatively. You shouldn’t be able to peak around corners or barriers without having to push them. If situational or spacial awareness is an issue, lets fix it across the board.
