What factor determines the belts on the M2 browing?

So what im talking about are the differents belts for each 12.7mm mgs in the american planes and how the variety of belt configurations change and I got lost about why some planes get these and others do not. This came to me while playing the P-63 family and missing my full API-T belts from my P-51D-5 even while they are at the same BR.

I know BR or Rank does not play a role here since the P-51C and F6F-5FN have different belts, neither does plane family since the P-38s get full M20 APIT belts on later variants and date so far I think also doesn’t affect putting again the P-51C and the F6F-5FN as examples, I think…

do you guys have any ideas what determines the belts? Because im kind of curious

I believe that it is the time of usage of the plane as ive heard people refer to them as early war, late war, and post war belts

I prefer calling them early-, mid-, and late-war belts, but same deal. Apart from the three American variants there’s also the British M2 that is roughly analogous to the the mid-war American M2; I assume that’s because the British didn’t buy the M20 API-T. The turret M2s are also split into mid- and late-war versions.

There’s a nice article on the old wiki that goes into detail about the differences between the M2 variants: M2 Browning (12.7 mm) - War Thunder Wiki. However, I think its comment on late-war M2s having a higher rate of fire is incorrect (at least now); all M2s (obviously excluding the M3) fire at 750 rpm.
