What explains the performance difference between Western and Russian AA missiles?

The F-14 was also pretty insane because they wanted to cash in on the Top gun movie so they introduced years ahead of time.

And bullpups were really ridiculous for a bit because someone they thought being able to launch missiles from the airfield and destroy tanks was a good idea.

Yeah, thats true

Oh I don’t disagree with you at all, and I’m not calling for any SPAA nerfs / removals.

I just view Pantsir as a Pandora’s box. It’s been opened and we can’t put that lid back on. It’s addition directly led to increased lethality in CAS, under the justification that they needed things to counter Pantsir, and now we exist in a world where Pantsir is the only thing capable of standing up to the threats that it itself justified existing.

We can’t remove Pantsir anymore. We need everyone else to catch up to Pantsir. Snail desperately needs to find out a way to implement multi-vehicle SAM batteries because this current gameplay is getting more untenable and less enjoyable every update.

Ah the good old Pantsir, it’s basically M247 of the current time.

Seeing how after multiple years they still don’t want to add HE-VT radar AAs to other countries, I think top tier is in for a long ride lol.

Game desperately needs to catch up to all the new tech anyways instead of shoving modern tech in a game designed for WW2.

Basic radar covering the battlefield, detecting incoming planes, helicopters and drones within 30km, the ability to scout and mark planes, airfield spawn, no markers for planes because what the hell is that about anyways.

We have radars, we have AWACs, I have more intel on Russian planes in Ukraine than I do in the game 5km from my position.

I mean, there are counterparts (just check the Top Tier SPAA Mega List)

Then they’re already 20 months late.

The Sarge is strong no doubt, but I don’t think it’s strength relative to its peers is anywhere near Pantsirs strength vs its peers.

If ground BR’s were spread the same as Air BR’s, Pantsir would / should be 13.7. I don’t think the next best things like ItO / Tor would deserve any higher than a 12.0/12.3. (But knowing snail, they’d probably push such things to 13.0/13.3 to maintain a false illusion of balance existing).

I mean M247 is probably the only one that has a chance of hitting skilled helicopter pilots, other SPAAGs can only fight afk pilots and that’s about it. This is probably how things work at top tier but it’s Pantsir instead of M247.

Getting 13.7 in Ground RB would be amazing, not just for SPAA balance, but in general as well. Sadly this is just wishful thinking.
If they plan to follow M247’s example, they’ll just keep Pantsir one or two BR steps above the rest of the pack and call it a day. At least for the time being.

Yeah, we really should have things like AWACS by now.

The notion any modern force would commit a regiments worth of armoured vehicles to a battle, completely blind to the airspace above them, relying solely on direct line of sight, is frankly nuts.

2 years from now we’ll get a .3 increase.

Just learn how to make better manpads yk

Classic compression.
In my opinion we might get 12.3 relatively soon, but I’ll call that other nations will get better top tier AAs only when we get newer gen of fighters. Until then Pantsir might come up to 12.3 with others lagging back at 11.7 or so.

Tbh, I think helicopters are just an entirely unique balancing dilemma. There is either no counter or hard counters.

HEVT is basically the only effective counter until SACLOS SAM’s come about, even IR SAM’s are often useless against them.

Creates a horrible situation where the early / mid ATGM Heli’s can either clown with impunity, or get moved up and be legitimately unplayable. Neither is fun for someone.

Helicopters being impossible to lock onto outside of 3-4km shouldn’t be a thing, they’re just hovering there out of range.

Yeah, IR / Manpad’s are unreasonably useless against Heli’s, despite all irl evidence to the contrary. I heard it was something to do with the way the snail correlates heat signature to thrust, which makes Heli’s much less ‘hot’ than they should be.

If they actually made them useful, we could start adding things like… idk… Land Rovers / Humvee’s / UAZ with a dude stood on the back holding a Stinger / Igla lol.

Would allow the 8.3-9.0 area some actual range against airborne AGM slingers.

Tell me more, I’ve struggled to lock 8.3 helicopters from ~3km of range with my 10.0 IR slingers. Doesn’t seem fair to me. The fact they butchered VEAK 40 and removed it’s HE-VT is weird as well, now M247 is like the best SPAAG in the game, hands down.

SACLOS SAMs are effective until helicopters get MAWs, which makes properly positioned helicopter almost unkillable from the ground and we’re back to the same story as with lower tier helis vs AA.
Only thing that’s different is that you need to have a single braincell to find something you can duck behind.

Gaijin probably understands this and doesn’t create premium AAs because they know they can’t balance most higher tier AAs to be effective and fun at the same time.

The whole implementation of helicopters is such a mess, and their refusal to fix them knows no bounds, how do we not have a normal playable heli mode to a point you dump the grind onto ground forces, as if I don’t have millions of RP to grind already without also being required to grind 5 million additional RP on top of that for helicopters, half of which are useless and sidegrades with a slight weapon difference that requires 400k RP for a mid BR vehicle for some reason.

And now they made the entire fuselage of helicopters count as avionics so any bullet hitting them makes them unusable which is also funny.

Gets even worse as you go up to.

Had a game the other day, Ka52 early game rocket rush destroys my Namer, so I hop in Chaparral. 3km? No lock. 2km? No lock 1km? Finally… oh… what’s that… every single missile goes wildly off target because of his IRCM… epic.

Dudes just sat there above our spawn, wiping out everyone through the roof with his APDS belts (Which gaijin seemingly didn’t care to assign a spawn cost to as they do with all other aircraft AP belts)… and there’s not a damn thing I can do about it, but beg and plead with my team mates who play countries with playable AA to spawn one lol.

The worst thing is listening to that high pitched sound for minutes straight, just trying to get a lock while the helicopter pilot kills half of your team in the meantime. Literal sound of defeat.

Just an average Israel experience, nothing to see here.
On a more serious note, seeing how some nations still lack a proper SACLOS SAM vehicle is pretty disturbing to say the least.

Bias moment.
