What do you think about naval?

What do you think about naval in it’s current state in War Thunder?
With the amount of players and slow gameplay?
For me with 3hr’s of naval playtime and owning the Voroshilov I like naval.
What is your opinion?

Just woke up so I’m not thinking that good rn.

A.I seems to be extremely OP currently. I fear attacking a A.I ship more than a player controlled ship from the air.

A.I seems to be able to snipe across the map often. I feel like A.I spams shots worst than players do now.

Damage seems off to me. I feel like ships are not sinking like they should and instead absorb damage. I have seen this problem before when I black out the entire hull but it is still alive, even with 0% crew. I think it’s part of a severe damage mechanic but Naval’s version. I don’t remember when they changed that, when you are unrepairable and but still alive, slowly dying.

Old quality of life problems still exist. Poor spawns. Long queue times, but I think it depends on the battle rating and if there is an event or battle pass challenge. Others exist in the forum if you care to look.

What do I think of naval? It’s playable. Always changing in ways, always getting content each update. You either like it or don’t. In my opinion it is great once you get established, but difficult to get there. Some nations are easier to play. I think long as you have a 50 cal and or a 40mm you will be okay till 3.3 br.

I will break this down into 2 parts. Coastal and Bluewater.

Bluewater
Bluewater is the easiest for me to answer. I really like it. It has incredible potential. But it has issues.

Ships look amazing. The gameplay itself (damage models, etc) are for the most part top notch. Better than air or ground damage models imo and the overall mechanics are fun.

The biggest failing of naval is the maps. Some are too small. others too big and nobody likes the conquest maps. They just need to be removed. Gaijin for some reason is also obsessed with this is idea that the entire team must spawn within an area the size of a postage stamp which just causes issues. Also some different gamemode objective types wouldnt go amiss either but unlike ARB or GRB. They do actually try with naval and we do have 3 different main gamemodes that do actually play differently to each other and then NEC ontop of that is rather good.

Economy wise its fine. SL printing is awesome, but RP gains could be better. Bots are annoying but they do reduce queue times.

So overall. Yeah. with the right effort. Bluewater could be a lot of fun. Im really interested to see what the decompression coming will actually do for bluewater top tier.

Coastal
Coastal is… far harder for me to discuss. Its the only British branch I have yet to reach top tier with and I know it will take me a long time to get there. Coastal gameplay can be… solid… Though balance is a mess imo but the maps are generally quite good.

The biggest issue though is coastal is both BR 1-4 of “naval” as a whole AND its own entire branch in its own right that goes from reserve to top tier. This means you can have a 6000GE premium coastal frigate fighting a 250GE premium bluewater destroyer and the destroyer has a pretty good chance of winning and probably getting more rewards at hte same time too.

Suffice to say this causes issues,. The grind for top tier coastals is brutal, maybe one of the hardest in the game, because things cost top tier amounts but you arent necessarily earning top tier amounts and that really sucks.

Coastal needs the most love imo and a big starting point would be a general decompression but also gaijin needs to decide whether coastal is a seperate gamemode to bluewater. Or whether naval is a single thing and treat coastal accordingly.

Needs a complete rework for sure, models are nice, damage models are probably good enough state. But the gameplay is kinda not great atm.

Theres no reason to bring anything but the strongest ship you have in terms of class at least in terms of kills/fun, but at the same time on maps that have capture points these are almost 100% of the time dictated by which team is more willing to control the coastal parts of the maps spawning in your fishing boats, but the rewards for doing so are absolute garbage.

Would like to see something like 3 spawns per player, objectives just removed and replaced with something more thematic like with AI ships etc. Limit spawns to 1 of each class, for example you could spawn 1 BB but after that you have to spawn something else like a destroyer or torpedo boat, and then rework rewards so that higher class ships are worth more to kill, like significantly more so its not like it is now were everyone just bullies the lightest target to farm RP/SL. And then add extra modifers for punching up, for instance give torpedo boats PT boats whatever a huge modifer on sinking larger class ships on top of the bases being adjusted.

Also please for the love of god let us have a check box at the bottom of the blue water tree to research coastal vessels with blue water.

There’s a naval mode in this game?

NAB is working fine for me - seems like wait times haven’t changed much, but the number of ppl in games looks like it is up from a month or 2 ago. (SWtat Shark seems to confirm that StatShark - See All Player, Missile, and Vehicle Statistics - looks like more games played in the months after the change tan before)

The damage model is a great deal more lethal than it was before the aiming change recently, but that works both ways and IMO makes the games faster.

Not sure if it affects the grind because I’ve mostly finished that until the new BB’s arrive.

Some tasks are much harder to do tho - “Whaleman” - killing DD’s and CL/CA with torpedoes from boats is much harder due the boats are easier to kill, same with killing ships with a/c lunched torpedoes due AI AA aiming - indeed anything with aircraft is harder and there seem to be a lot less of them in the game now. I still bring them in 1/2 or more of my games - and did get a ship kill with Soviet A-20 torps last night - but it took 3 games to do so and a/c got shot down every time…

Have to somehow be positive with something in this mode sometimes.

Even if you do get absolutely obliterated by multiple rockets from a certain 1960s Russian frigate in your interwar WW1 destroyer.

SF40 Heavy and MGB 75 are both incredibly fun. HMS Jervis and Smelyi are both pretty good aswell.

Needs some serious work, but I still enjoy playing naval quite a bit.

Playing Italian bluewater?

Its a good way to farm SL
But tbh the experience in NRB is a bit clueless when i was just in touch with high tier Ships

i really do not enjoy naval for some reasons like imo the maps are just too open, you literally spawn in and you can already start shooting at people across the map

i also think the game should me more arcadey even on the rb mode, my best example would be something like the other game, you know, planet of battle boats.

then i think bluewater and costal should be separated because its not fair for my random pt boat with a 20mm and 2 whole torpedoes to be able to face destroyers and stuff that can 1 tap you from outside your range

then i also think naval should get a ground rb type of spawn system because whats even the point on having a lot of ships in your lineup if you can only spawn 3 times anyways

then i would really nerf ai gunners bc its not fun to get sniped by aa 2 seconds after spawning on a plane

also maybe more objectives? or you know, stuff to do, because all of the modes i have seen is just go into point, cap it and die, most of the times one team will cap the pt boat zone and very slowly bleed points bc if you dare to get close to the larger cap zones you get beamed by 5 different ships and thats just not very fun

The RP and SL gain are just awful for naval.
Playing a 30 minute match, getting 6 kills and 2 assists, and i get 6k RP.

Thats just awful and not a fun experience. Yes, i have premium time.

thats also my experience - and “on-top” its very frustrating that often bombs dropped (from a already doomed plane) are destroyed in-flight by aa-fire resulting in no damage.

I like NRB , my only problem is the maps and the grind as every other mode in RB. They could make some better maps .
Coastal…
it’s weird , because it has relatively good maps for how it plays. Balance and grind though…maybe the worst mode when it comes to these.
