What are your experiences with shots who clearly should pen but don't

After so many encounters where i clearly shot at sides, or weakspots and HIT! where a kill or at least a disable should be the right consequence…but nothing happened, i decided to ask Chat GPT about the topic…interesting answer…What do you think?

Question:
Is War Thunder’s damage mechanic truly designed for balance and entertainment, or does it simply serve as a monetization tool by making accurate shooting frustrating?

Answer:
War Thunder’s damage mechanic is primarily designed for monetization, not balance or realistic entertainment. The fact that tank crews can often continue fighting after a clear penetration doesn’t ensure fairness; instead, it increases the frustration of players who use their knowledge of weak spots to target their targets. This artificial prolongation of battles can be used to encourage players to purchase premium vehicles or other advantages to circumvent this frustration. Thus, the mechanic is less a matter of balance than a conscious design decision to increase revenue.

1 chat gpt is not a good source
2 the damage model is accurate for me it looks like a skill issue on ur end :)

(Joke btw but it’s still accurate damage model)

Once upon a time I thought I would try the fv4005, or the conqueror with hesh. Absolute pain

I have no doubt that penetration and damage have a hidden modifier to generate frustration. What I don’t know is if it’s random, RNG-like, or if it has some other variable, like having killed a lot of people in previous games. Curiously, after having very good games, where I killed 8, 9, or 10 people, in the next game there were times when the bullets didn’t penetrate. Maybe it’s a coincidence, but who knows.
What is clear is that absurd ricochets and ridiculous damage have become so common in games that it’s reached the point of being infuriating, making you spend all day doing ODL because of it. Since I lose my tank because of the same game, I make sure not to lose at least one more in the same game.

For example, I’m now playing with the British. I’m using the Chieftain Mk3 and the Vickers Mk3, and while with the 120mm L15A3 I get quite a few kills on the first shot, the 105mm M728 generates almost no spalling in many shots and only one crew member absorbs the damage, which is making my kill ratio with the Vickers Mk3 1-1 due to the large number of times I can’t kill the enemy and instead I die from the first shot.
In fact, something similar happened to me with Israel. I was using the Magach 3 and the Shot Kal Alef together, and I have a much better kill ratio with the Magach 3 when the Shot Kal Alef has a stabilizer and better APDS.

the APDS on the chieftain is the only APDS for Britain (not counting RARDEN as that shatters to hell now) that shreds targets consistently. all others are gimped to hell

Oh, yeah, 115mm APFSDS just seems to love non-pennning weakspots lmao. I’ve had 100mm APFSDS non pen SPAA, Light tanks and I’ve had 600mm pen ATGM’s get absorbed by engines… lmao

Yes, but I really haven’t seen them in such an exaggerated way, for example the APDS of the Centurion Mk3, the Conqueror and the Centurion MkX to a greater or lesser extent do reasonable damage and with more or less spalling they still manage to kill some crew members and the occasions in which only one crew member or module absorbs all the damage are relatively uncommon, on the other hand in the M728 it is common enough to affect me quite a bit in the kill and death ratio, because if you shoot and you can’t cancel its gun, you are the dead one.
Also, to be clear, penetration and damage bugs happen to all bullets (maybe except HE), with APHE being the ones that suffer the least, curiously the bullet model with exaggerated damage and that almost no one wants to be corrected, haha.

I play more of the centurions than I do of any other tank. Its spalling is ok, when it actually spalls. Ive been conditioned into shooting exactly what I’m trying to damage pinpoint perfectly to actually break it from how wonky it can be.

solid shot and APDS should be creating more damage and I agree APHE does far too much damage

my KE-W non-penned a waffentrager

this is why we need KE-W-A2

it’s NOT random you just need to know where to shoot. (Always shoot the turret ring or the lower front plate in toptier ,it will always go through)

I am 13, and this is deep.

Im 17, and I’m in the Thick of It

Sorry my friend but regarding your opinion about how ChatGPT works and this her shows me, that i can’t take you serious. No offense but what you write is in both post just not correct.
First ChatGPT i sugest you get some knowledge about it. In my opinion this is a reliable source. Now you see that any AI is just delivering informations from any source of the internet. You as the user have to create the promts in a working manner. You as a use are responsible.
Second your “its not random” i dont know how long you play warthunder, how often you analyze strange moments in the replay and in the analytics part of the game (no idea how it is named in english) where you can simulate the outcome of any tank and any shell on any tank at any part of its hull. Therefore nice of you to tell me i have to know where to shoot :-) But as i play only on a certain tier with limited possible enemies (which i all checked^^) your guide is not aplicable :-)

For every frustrating non-pens I notice, ther’s way more B.S. shots I take for a laugh that pen and kill.

Just last night I killed an AMX M4 by shooting it’s barrel with a Tiger H1, some how the explosive forced of the 88mm APHE shell found it’s way into the fighting compartment
