What Are Contemporaries of the 10.7 M1 Abrams That Are Worse?

Since other forumites offered that there are worse contemporaries that need to face off against the M1 Abrams, I thought I’d start this thread to discuss which contemporaries they’re speaking of.

How do these contemporaries play against and with the M1?

Challenger DS/Mk3 with L26 shouldnt have an issue, Mk2 with only L23A1, would need to aim for weakspots. Though… Whilst they have the same reload, the M1 has a 22 round ready rack and the CR1 has a 4 round ready rack (though it should be bigger, more like 20 rounds) That is quite a nerf in a 1v1 fight that last longer than 20-30 seconds or if the CR1 has been engaging other targets before hand

Has this bug report made a difference for the Challenger DS? Have they changed the 4 round to a 20 round yet?

Nope. Same for the CR2s as well. 4 round ready rack is a significant nerf.

It came about because originally Britain was the only nation with a 5 second reload (fastest at top tier) to compensate for other weaknesses like low mobility, so small ready rack was the mitigation for it. Now everyone has a 5 second reload and far larger ready racks. Along with other strengths like better mobility and armour. (CR2 report 1 and report 2 for reference)

I was made aware that British tanks kept 20 rounds as first stage stowage 20 years ago.

This is an unacceptable matter and I would strongly like to see it put through for the British tech tree.

Yep, we tried like hell, but looks like Gaijin is happy with the current nerfs for Britain. Biggest non- R&R thread on the forums is for the CR2. The result… CR2 nerfs.

Anything that’s not 2A4 and maybe T-80B is basically worse than M1.

That leaves Ariete (P), T72M2 Moderna, Object 292, Bhismha, and the light tanks and IFVs.

Out of the above, two are event vehicles, one is a squadron vehicle, and the Ariete is unfortunately Italian. Still, it does carry DM33 at 10.7 with a max 6.5-second reload. (6 if you GE or finally free it at Ace).

You forgot about the Vickers and another poster brought up Challengers as well.
I’m not counting lights in.

From everything mentioned I still think M1 and 2A4 are best of the bunch, and with quite a margin.

I did not see Vickers in the list I had, my apologies.

And yes, he did bring up the problems with the Challengers, which I’m absolutely in agreement with. And Gaijin should fix it, for the sake of the players.

Challengers keep losing their niche with more and more tanks getting faster reloads for balance. Same would happen to T-series tanks and it’s copies at 10.0 - 10.7 if Gaijin was about to add DM33 and M900, which is obviously why they don’t that.

That’s because main battle tanks don’t have a niche.

You fail to realize that one of the very few reasons to play Challengers was their ability to out-reload others, that was indeed their niche.

Even if they don’t/can’t bother remodeling the ready rack, then maybe the ready rack could at least refill in a reasonable amount of time? Less than ten seconds, maybe 6? Seems like an easy change.

The gun feels quite good too, most reliable guns at the tier imo. Or at least were. Chally armor is also pretty good, the first one seems to suffer less from the mantlet being a free pen.

Imo the only downside with the T-80 is the reload. In every other way, I love it. I get caught out being too agressive with it, and the reload punishes me. My fault mostly, lol.

Yeah, It takes way too long, Id happily sit still for 10 seconds to let it replenish and just fight in bursts
