I could ask you, why don’t you go into Arcade battles?
What a strange response.
We’re looking for the same thing: to overcome the limitations of our vehicle through tactics, cunning, and surprise. And to be able to do so without being spotted if I’m careful enough, if I’m lucky, or if I use the terrain to my advantage.
I read your introductory post carefully, and I disagree with you about removing recon in RB because it’s a “realistic” mode. If you really want what you’re looking for, you’ll find it in simulation. (And besides, even in real life, reconnaissance units communicate by radio about the position of an enemy they’ve spotted.)
-
These are team games, so they’re collective. And even many players don’t look at their map enough.
-
It was necessary to increase the usefulness and playability of light tanks because the maps are often too small anyway, and that’s their role in reality.
-
I’m not saying that the system is perfect and doesn’t need to be improved, but it’s a good compromise between arcade and simulation.
You’re right that teamwork and communication should matter — but that’s exactly why the current scouting system undermines it.
It replaces real teamwork (map awareness, communication, coordination) with a single mechanic that automates all of that.
Good teamplay should come from players actually working together, not from a universal marker that gives everyone perfect intel.
That is the biggest difference between Arcade and RB, that you actually don’t get conspicuous information from the game anymore.
Making them more “useful” by giving them an overpowered spotting mechanic doesn’t really fix map design — it just hides the problem.
If maps don’t offer enough opportunities for light tanks, then that’s the issue that should be addressed, not compensated for by giving one class a heroshooter-like advantage.
Their role for the most part was to do reconnaissance against superior battle tanks.
In War Thunder tanks aren’t put into the context of their time, so they shouldn’t be pressed into the context of their reallife usage.
Irl, a Centauro would have done reconnaissance against superior MBTs like a Leopard 2a5, ingame it should normally fight in combat against equals like the Leopard 1a5.
Yes, it may be a “compromise” between arcade and simulation, but it leans way too far toward Arcade.
In a mode that’s supposed to reward awareness, positioning, and stealth, scouting can remove most of that depth.
Drones should not exist at all. Put them in one mode together with helis or just remove them entirely, I don’t care.
They require no extra skill and are annoying. The only people who like them don’t actually want to participate in the fighting.
But the thing is.
Most map are dogshit , in fact 99% of them are dogshit. Gaijin have been nerfing all flank route or outright remove them by “fixing” the map. The only thing you could really use your terrain to your advantage is sniping.
And if the map have flank route ? Well shit out of luck because gaijin already giving the enemy sniping position direct look int your route.
Even worse ? Light tank can lol pin point your position , good luck trying to run flank when gaijin give the playerbase all the tool they need to boil the gameplay down to gun sizing across the map and if you are a large heavy slow vehicle ? Well shit out of luck bro, better luck next time. It is worse the higher you.
Using the map to your advantage is only correct when the game doesn’t give the enemy bird eye view and you can’t know if you have been spotted or not. Which strike fear in puppies and they will default back to factory setting.
I know this sounds crazy, but hear me out — the way scouting works in Ground RB right now is so unfair that it would honestly make more sense to just give everyone permanent enemy markers.
Think about it, if the point of scouting is to help teams get better info on enemies, then why not go all the way?
At least if everyone had permanent markers, the system would be consistent and not depend on if a random scout drone from 2km away happend to spot you.
So:
- No more random advantage depending on which team brought light tanks.
- Everyone knows what’s going on, the players seem to like that.
- And the mode would clearly be Arcade-style, not this weird “half-realistic” mess we have now.
Right now, scouting just sits in a bad middle ground:
It takes away the tension and uncertainty that make Realistic fun, but it doesn’t even give the clarity that Arcade does. Instead, you get spotted by chance.
The low risk mechanics of scouting had nothing to do with skill anyway.
So really, we’ve got two honest options:
- Remove scouting completely and keep Realistic truly Realistic.
- Give everyone full markers and admit it’s basically Arcade.
The current system is literally the worst of both worlds — half-Arcade, half-Realistic, and not great at being either.
I am still pro removing scouting entirely but if this is the alternative, i would prefer it to the current scouting mechanics.
lol why is this random?
If your team brought a light tank? Super.
If your team did not bring a light tank? Sucks to be you.
It’s not random if no one on your team of 16 brought a light tank. It’s poor planning.
The game shouldn’t depend on light tanks like that. How is this even a topic of discussion?
What about the number of teammates with light tanks is not random?
What does that have to do with plaining? Everybody brings to the game what he likes to play or wants to grind.
So if I spawn in a Leopard a1a1 instead of a TAM, I just did poor “planning”? That’s ridiculous.
This entire post is just whining and excuses.
16 players with 2-3 tanks each, and it’s random that NO ONE has a llight tank that can be used.? Just. Stop. It.
At the MINIMUM there should be one player that has brought and will use a light tank - YOU.
Because you have posted ad-nauseum how concerned you are about the possibility of the other side having scouting but your team will not.
It appears you want the game to cater to your lowest denominator. You are not willing to use light tanks/scouting, so no one should have scouting.
That’s just ridiculous.
I talked about it being random which team brings more light tanks. Twisting statements isn’t very fair.
I am talking about the team having MORE scouts having the advantage. I have never talked about a team having zero light tanks. You really should take the time to read the posts and understand what is being said.
No, that’s not my reasoning behind it.
“No more random advantage depending on which team brought light tanks.”
I don’t see the word “more” in there.
“So if I spawn in a Leopard a1a1 instead of a TAM, I just did poor “planning”?”
You have the choice to bring/use a light tank but instead may opt for a Leopard.
Your agenda is obvious.
I can’t take your view seriously. I’m done listening to your excuses about why the other team might have an advantage your team could also have.
You are right. What I meant was that that it would depend on the bringing of light tanks anymore. Obviously the disadvantage is not just when bringing 0 light tanks but when bringing less light tanks.
So you are saying I should bring the light tank instead of the medium tank. So you say yourself that the light tank is the better choice (because of scouting). This is exactly one of the problems I am talking about.
So light tanks are not balanced because both teams can have them? The exact same argumentation can be applied to OP CAS etc. It’s invalid. Only because both sides can use it doesn’t make it not broken.
You have to weigh the pros and cons - just like your opponents do. Just like in your example above, if they choose an extra light tank (maybe for scouting) then they are short somewhere else - heavy/medium/spg…
You choose your own poison. But remember, you’ve built scouting up on a pedestal, so after all this I can’t figure out why you would NOT choose a light tank.
Your random comments are like say… me complaining about RANDOMLY being stuck with stupid players. The difference is, I can’t do anything about being stuck with stupid players. But you can do something about being short on scouting.
And I disagree with that. A TAM like many other light tanks aren’t short somewhere else. If they were, they could be balanced through the BR system and not some hero shooter mechanics.
If I bring out a heavy tank I’m going to be slow and probably have a longer reload, if I bring out a howitzer I will probably have a long reload and bad armor etc. …and if I bring out a light tank I am going to have weak armor but good mobility, reload etc.
If a light tank happened to be bad overall, the BR should be changed.
I disagree with that analogy. I do not complain because I don’t want to use scouting myself. I actually think that it shouldn’t be in the game because it ruins tactical gameplay in GRB and is unfair.
Believe me, I also don’t like the gameplay when my team is winning because the entire enemy team is light up.
This is not a “I suffer so much from it” complaint. It is a “I believe this actually is unfair and it destroys what used to be GRB” complaint.
You seem to disagree with everything by default.
No idea how you can disagree with my statement.
If they choose a light tank, they are obviously NOT choosing something else. Hence “they are short on…” What is there to disagree with that?
Since I disagree with your opinion, I obviously disagree with your argumentation. That is totally logical.
Every tank is short on something. Tanks have advantages and disadvantages that impact their statistics and so their battle ratings.
What I think you are saying is that light tanks have scouting as an advantage but overall the disadvantages balance that out anyway.
That might be were we disagree ;). Scouting is not just one of many advantages that are in balance with the disadvantages of the light tanks.
This is because of 2 reasons:
-
scouting does not reflect on statistics of the scout tanks that much. It doesn’t just buff the light tank, it buffs all the other tanks around it as well. So even though light tanks are the reason behind the unfair tactical advantage that scouting provides, it is not just their stats that profit from it. Scouting is broken without impacting just the statistics of the tanks that provide it.
-
If scouting were to be removed, that wouldn’t mean one advantage less for light tanks. The playstyles for light tanks that used to be way more popular before scouting (flanking, ambushing) got massively nerfed by scouting itself.
Scouting, as a less risky and less skillfull mechanic, replaced the high risk high reward gameplay that light tanks provided. It didn’t make light tanks better, it just made the easier to play.
No.
It’s a lot simpler than that.
If you choose a light tank…
- You are giving up static protection
- You may be giving up crew numbers
- You may be giving up firepower
That’s it. Nothing complicated. Mediums/Heavies/Spgs can do certain things a light tank can’t. TRADEOFF.
But it is not fair ? Lol ? Some light , especially at top tier are just out right better than their MBT counter part. Even low br light can do the same if you actually use your brain.
Yeah trade off armor meaning you gotta pick your fight and play more carefully , less firepower mean you gotta aim.
But in return you got better mobility than 90% of other vehicle at your same br. A “Lmao get spotted” button, literally free SL and RP. It is even worse at top tier cause they are ouright better than other MBT at the same or even above it. 90% of the playerbase unable to play anything that doesn’t have amor doesn’t mean LT are bad. While the one that does just wipe the floor with a LT(Not counting IFV)
You just bad with light tank bro , maybe get good before talking about how bad LT is. Considering it still a concept after years and years of Tank development.
But light tanks can do certain things a medium/heavy/spg can’t do, even without scouting.
You need to invest in a new translation app.
Your take on what I posted is so far off it’s comical.
