We need bigger maps because of the new AA’s/SAMs

let’s be quick with this topic where we’ll discuss the points below:

  • Aircraft spawn in Ground Battles
  • Map distance and interference against air targets when using an AA/SAM
  • maps with larger expansions for planes

  • Aircraft spawn in Ground Battles

let’s start with the topic of aircraft spawns, which has been bothering a good part of the players who have solid experience using jets focused exclusively on ground attack.

some already notice real difficulties when carrying heavy payloads, making their jets extremely unmanoeuvrable. because of this, the new AA/SAM systems benefit by being able to lock jets within the very first milliseconds and fire missiles that take no more than 15–20 seconds to reach your aircraft.

because of that, some players are choosing to take off from airfields on the ground, which makes any ground attack attempts even harder. you end up having to fly close to the treetops, risking collisions with trees that may have hitboxes at their tops, making your jet explode mid-air at high speed this after dodging at least 3–4 enemy AA missiles right after taking off at 300m altitude from the runway.

so what’s the solution ? Air spawn points placed farther back, at least 25–30 km away, giving players enough time and room to dodge those 40G–50G AA/SAM missiles currently in the game and the new ones that are going to be added.

  • Map distance and interference against air targets when using an AA/SAM

another point in this topic is about the interference that AA’s and SAMs should face on the ground whether from buildings, houses, or even a new combat system that could be implemented on jets or as new vehicles to research!

in the real world, we’ve got advanced technologies that make the term “electronic warfare” pretty well known, since the goal is to disrupt or reduce radar/target acquisition of allies as much as possible.

some countries already have vehicles designed to provide that kind of support, and I believe adding something like this would make War Thunder more team-focused on both sides of the battle.

with this, maybe it wouldn’t even be necessary to move airfields and air spawns further back, which would reduce the need for bigger maps or expanding the ones we already have.

  • maps with larger expansions for planes

expansions and larger maps for aircraft in ground battles are a must if mechanics like the stealth F-117 or some kind of electronic warfare system (like we mentioned earlier) aren’t added to top-tier jets in each nation’s tech tree in war thunder.

we’re not talking about expanding maps for ground vehicles, but specifically for aircraft where in just 1 to 2 grid squares you’re already getting “out of map” warnings while 4–5 long-range enemy AA missiles are on their way.

there needs to be more space and more room to manoeuvre in order to balance air and ground forces in ground battles. right now, the only way to do something decently is to dive in head-first at close range with jets like the F-4 Phantom and its variants around 10.0/10.7 BR still facing moderate risks only if they fall into battles around their own rating.

to wrap it up, we’re gonna have big problems with the next update and the ones that follow! in the medium term, it might even become unviable to bring jets or helicopters into the lineup. honestly, I think that’s maybe what 10% of the community actually wants in the end—so they can feel safer just pressing W in their tanks without worrying about the skies of war thunder…

that’s my 5 cents, and maybe it adds up with your opinion which could be the same as mine, just more fleshed out. who knows, maybe together we’ll make it to a full dollar ( yeah, I know, terrible joke ).

good afternoon everyone, enjoy the game, and see you on the battlefield .

Not even reading all of that but I agree, bigger maps would be nice. Maginot line sized at least.

how about sands of sinai with the airfields in two oposite corners of the map

I think the tiny maps are more of a concern for the ground aspect of ground than for jets. It makes the game pretty unbalanced and boring at 12.0

Air spawns:

Simply dumb to be spawned in the range of your enemy in their spawn. Whoever disagrees should be stuck in the old Winter Ardennes where ground units can shoot from spawn to spawn.

Whether there should be an air spawn or not? Doesn’t really matter as long as the AF is far away enough.

Map distance:

Larger and more designed ground map yes. Don’t actually have to separate some SPAA only zone for that would be cancer for tank-SPAA interactions. Ground maps are undersized and under-designed themselves anyways.

Cover is a thing and I would consider a concrete lid on the spawn, solving spawn protected SPAA issue and tanks being bombed in spawn issue at the same time

Map for planes:

Let people have the space to gain energy.

I was thinking of moving the long range AAs further from the battlefield

Front line AAs like Pantsir or Ito are great there, but it’s a nightmare for the bulkier ones

It’s not fun when you can just bomb the whole spawn with 1 bomb and kill a whole AA system because it’s safe zone is 100 by 100 meters

+ CAS would have more time to react

That would be cool. Not to mention other games but maps at the size some milsima go for like squad or arms would be awesome. Perhaps a territory control mode for these types of maps where the map is divided into an interlocking grid. Add the ability for scout vehicles to create spawns and allow for them to be resupplied by cargo helicopters, and then letting such maps play for longer. That’d be cool as fuck.

Did they not do this shortly after the new AA came out?
