Having new vehicles and mechanics is great but the game blatantly needs repairs and expanding.
Just to clarify this isn’t a War thunder bashing thread, I and many others genuinely like the game but for me personally my interest is waning due to the sheer amount of blatant issues the game has been suffering from for years now. Some are so blatant it’s as though they’re slapping you in the face as soon as you switch the game on.
Bugs such as:
Airfield defenders that stay crashed on the runway after landing and repeatedly glitch out. If you’re just spawning in half way through the match this looks terrible. It won’t exactly give new players confidence.
Airfields with non working AAA defences allowing players to strafe those taking off with zero punishment.
Game lobbies can show they’re full of players but are empty when you join completely wasting any booster you may have activated.
Fuel gauges on most aircraft do not work properly (very important for sim). Some cockpits are ancient and you can almost see the pixels in front of you.
Aircraft spotting is atrociously bad, aircraft can de-render from directly in front of you and turn invisible against the clouds, ground clutter and at times even a clear blue sky. It’s easier to spot the contrails from aircraft than the giant aircraft itself and oddly it’s easier to spot an aircraft from a distance than when you close the gap to them. Figure that one out.
Ground textures/pop in (possible poor Ps5 optimization only): Entire buildings can pop in from only a couple of miles away… I’ve never played a game with such poor rendering. The ground textures at times also look like they’re from the Ps2 era, this can be especially seen in maps such as 38th parallel from the airfield runways. Jungle is another hideous map.
Controls lock up: At times on the runway your controls can completely lock up (except zoom oddly) with no fix other than to restart the game.
Now for game improvements. This game has massive potential but the gameplay at this point is completely stale. We’ve been playing the same game for years now with zero gameplay changes, in some areas you’ve actually REMOVED popular game modes for absolutely no reason.
Bring back historical events and historical enduring confrontation especially for Simulator battles. Make it work on a rotation and bring back the leaderboards. Make the objectives in game actually mean something to affect the battle outcome/help or hinder your team. Destroying a factory could limit the ammunition an aircraft could carry or create timers to respawn if you’re shot down. Make us actually want to destroy/protect objectives and as a side note this will also give attackers a new lease of life.
Give ground battles some actual objectives other than “capture the point”. Make one team defend an area while the other team has to destroy the buildings/camp within. It’d also give the large HE lobbers some new life. Give us ground enduring confrontation with objectives that move the front line like with air EC. Convoy protection missions, base defence/destroying missions, capture zones that actually mean something like high grounds and bridges etc and make the maps large enough to cater for it all.
On that subject STOP SHRINKING MAPS. Remove the barriers that have been put in place for god knows what reason and let us flank again. Being spoon fed directly into the mouth of a Tiger II whilst you’re driving a faster tank that has minimal chance to frontally penetrate said Tiger is not fun. Open the maps and let fast tanks actually do their job.
Speaking of fast tanks fix your game balance (SB mode). Time travelling light tanks/armoured cars should never be able to melt through the frontal armour of the heavy tanks they face unless they’re a tank destroyer. Heavies sacrifice speed and general mobility to be able to take a punch especially in the case of the Tortoise or Jagdtiger and yet they’re forced to fight futuristic HEAT and HESH lobbing zippy fast tanks. Open the maps and make light tanks have to flank like they’re supposed to.
Also fix/balance APDS damage. If APHE isn’t going to be realistically and historically nerfed then there’s no excuse why APDS has to “realistically” suffer the way it does. Make the spall cone considerably larger to allow tanks to more consistently one-shot those they face with frontal penetrations. As a disclaimer I don’t like this approach but if we’re going for fun over accuracy as with APHE then this is only fair. Having one side fighting with “realistic damage” against the other with one-click delete rounds is horrendously unbalanced.
TL:DR we need an update based solely on game improvements and bug fixes. Each new update filled with shiny new toys is just allowing the cracks in your game to mount up and the whole thing is beginning to feel stale. Fix and build on the foundations of your game, stop ignoring it.
