Warthunder needs a hard divide between rank 5 and 6 (potential suggestion)

BASIC IDEA
Currently, Warthunder has a massive issue with compression. This is because rank 1 to rank 5 (or br 1.0-7.7) covers early/pre WW2 to late/post WW2, or ~7 years of technological advances. Meanwhile, rank 6 to rank 8 (or br 8.0-12.0) covers early-coldwar to modern tech, or about 80 years of technological advance (about 20x as many years per BR).

I believe an extremely simple and effective way to solve the issue of BR compression is to add a hard divide between rank 5 and 6. This means that rank 6+ and rank 5- cannot be up/downtiered to meet eachother.

͏
PREPARATION NEEDED
Before this divide can be made, many vehicles would need BR and rank changes. As for BR changes, rank 1-5 is expanded from 1.0-7.7 to 1.0-8.7. This means that vehicles like the Maus or T32 would be 8.7. Rank 6 would start at 9.0 aswell (9.0s would be vehicles like the M60A1 (AOS), T-55, Gepard, and pretty much any early SACLOS missile slinger or 155mm artillery tanks with LRF. Also, the non American F-84Fs would need to move to rank 5.

These basic guidlines for deciding what goes where would cover most vehicles.
Any vehicle in any of the following categories will be rank 6+

    1. Aircraft with guided A2A or A2G weapons.
    1. Ground vehicles with LRF or a stabilizer and powerful HEAT, HE, or sabots.
    1. Radar or SAM SPAA.

This would be an extremely basic foundation for what goes to what rank.

EXCEPTIONS AND EDGE CASES
Ofc, there will need to be exceptions to the guidelines.
Leopard 1 and T95E1, for example, don’t technically fit any of the categories, but clearly shouldn’t be rank 5.
Inversely, M163 and Pt-76 technically fit the categories, but clearly shouldn’t be rank 6.

Common sense will obviously be needed to make this work, and case-by-case basis and common sense aren’t exactly Gajin’s strong suits. Additionally, there’s certain edge case vehicles that will cause additional trouble.

For example

Where should the HKP3C go? It’s a heli with SACLOS missiles, and has a clear-cut advantage over WW2 aircraft, but the missiles arent even close to rank 6 material.

OTHER BENEFITS
Aside from helping to remedy compression issues, separating rank 5 and 6 means certain types of vehicles that were previously screwed over by tech 30 years ahead will now get a chance to shine. 1940/50s jets like the F-84 and F-86, that were previously curbstomped by SPAA still in service today, will now be able to bomb campers freely.

Rocket-only helis like the AH-1G or the Italian/Japanese Hueys are extremely fun in concept, but have their dreams (and themselves) shot down by auto cannon IFV and radar SPAA spam. With these 1980s IFVs and SPAAs put on a restraining order, rocket-only helis will finally have a real use.

STATING THE OBVIOUS
A.This would apply soley to GRB.

B. Whether ZSU-23/37 should be r6, and M163 r5 is not up for debate. Don’t try to start an argument about it.

C. Common sense.

No, we dont need two top tiers and two bottom tiers

Exactly.

I could maybe see a soft split working in air (preferably in the 8.0ish region, that would be done by having an empty BR at 8.3 for example.

Ground doesn’t have such a severe jump in capability at any BR that can’t be solved by decompression. Air has it at 9.3, but there are enough vehicles in that BR range (with much more to add) that would make decompression very possible when done right.

another consideration for air would be simply limiting the weapons a plane gets access to between ground and air, ie give the a10 its full current loadout in ground battles but artificially limit them to worse missiles (aim9J or G or something) in air

The jump between WW2 tanks at 7.7 and stabilized sabot/HEAT tanks at 8.3 is very sudden, however the jump in SPAA technology going from 1940s SPAA to 1980s SPAA is 10x more disgusting and kills entire classes of vehicles.

I really cannot imagine a single way to properly balance 1940/50 CAS-SPAA interactions without first completely cutting off 1980s SPAA from interacting with 1940/50s CAS.

The hard divide that I propose IS a form of decompression.

Yes please, and also between ranks 4 and 5. It’s not fun to come in a battle with a rank 4 warbird only to get absolutely obliterated by a F-89 that outspeeds you, outclimbs you and outturns you all by a large margin. This really has to be fixed

Late props v.s early jets isn’t really a massive issue. There’s only a select few jets that actually cause problems.

There was a leak about about seperating ww2 from the rest of the tree, I assume you would be able to start from cold war or current 1.0 stuff.

But knowing gaijin that would also mean it would take 300k rp to resesrch a king tiger and 80 dollar ww2 premiums since those would be rank 8 vehicles in the new system ala coastal and bluewater seperation… and the monkey paw curls.

Well so far I’ve only had problems against the F-84 and F-89

And it can be solved by decompression.

That just makes CAS op witch really sucks.

The main issue is from the early jets to the next gen jets, like Sabres, Mig-15s, G.91s, and other similar places.

Reality didn’t have the hard divide. Why should the game have it?

I dont remember the history channel special about korean war vets fighting in berlin with their secret time machine.

Because this is a game meant to be fun while war was at no point fun
And jet fighters barely ever fought propeller fighters, except for the Me-262 obviously
If you wanna follow that logic, F-4s have faced F-22s sometimes, yet I don’t think you’d like to be uptiered to top tier when flying an F-4

You memory does not affect history.

The game does that for me.

Oh. Did they not?

Did korean war vets fight in berlin?

Is that relevant to the question of a hard divide or is it relevant to your ego only?

I mean technically they could have, just not with a time machine. Korean war vets could have also fought in berlin, but no korean war vets were in berlin in 1945 as obviously the korean war hadn’t happened.

This is probably a nightmare for ESL lol.

Ground has from 7.7 to 8.7
7.7 no stab, no laser, no thermal, aphe
8.7 laser rangefinder, stab, darts, thermal gen1

Reality didn’t have a BR system either. This hard divide is for gameplay purposes, just like how the BR system is for gameplay purposes.

Sure, Corsairs and Mustangs may have fought Mig-15s irl, but it simply wouldn’t be fun ingame.

Taking 1980s SPAAs out of 1940-50s BR wouldn’t make CAS op. As specified in my post, all guided A2A and A2G armaments would be rank 6, with obvious exceptions being things like the Ki-87 and possibly te HKP3C.

You’re correct, decompression is the solution, however my suggestion is a form of decompression.

no more relevant than what I was replying to
