BASIC IDEA
Currently, Warthunder has a massive issue with compression. This is because rank 1 to rank 5 (or br 1.0-7.7) covers early/pre WW2 to late/post WW2, or ~7 years of technological advances. Meanwhile, rank 6 to rank 8 (or br 8.0-12.0) covers early-coldwar to modern tech, or about 80 years of technological advance (about 20x as many years per BR).
I believe an extremely simple and effective way to solve the issue of BR compression is to add a hard divide between rank 5 and 6. This means that rank 6+ and rank 5- cannot be up/downtiered to meet eachother.

PREPARATION NEEDED
Before this divide can be made, many vehicles would need BR and rank changes. As for BR changes, rank 1-5 is expanded from 1.0-7.7 to 1.0-8.7. This means that vehicles like the Maus or T32 would be 8.7. Rank 6 would start at 9.0 aswell (9.0s would be vehicles like the M60A1 (AOS), T-55, Gepard, and pretty much any early SACLOS missile slinger or 155mm artillery tanks with LRF. Also, the non American F-84Fs would need to move to rank 5.
These basic guidlines for deciding what goes where would cover most vehicles.
Any vehicle in any of the following categories will be rank 6+
-
- Aircraft with guided A2A or A2G weapons.
-
- Ground vehicles with LRF or a stabilizer and powerful HEAT, HE, or sabots.
-
- Radar or SAM SPAA.
This would be an extremely basic foundation for what goes to what rank.
EXCEPTIONS AND EDGE CASES
Ofc, there will need to be exceptions to the guidelines.
Leopard 1 and T95E1, for example, don’t technically fit any of the categories, but clearly shouldn’t be rank 5.
Inversely, M163 and Pt-76 technically fit the categories, but clearly shouldn’t be rank 6.
Common sense will obviously be needed to make this work, and case-by-case basis and common sense aren’t exactly Gajin’s strong suits. Additionally, there’s certain edge case vehicles that will cause additional trouble.
For example
Where should the HKP3C go? It’s a heli with SACLOS missiles, and has a clear-cut advantage over WW2 aircraft, but the missiles arent even close to rank 6 material.
OTHER BENEFITS
Aside from helping to remedy compression issues, separating rank 5 and 6 means certain types of vehicles that were previously screwed over by tech 30 years ahead will now get a chance to shine. 1940/50s jets like the F-84 and F-86, that were previously curbstomped by SPAA still in service today, will now be able to bomb campers freely.
Rocket-only helis like the AH-1G or the Italian/Japanese Hueys are extremely fun in concept, but have their dreams (and themselves) shot down by auto cannon IFV and radar SPAA spam. With these 1980s IFVs and SPAAs put on a restraining order, rocket-only helis will finally have a real use.
STATING THE OBVIOUS
A.This would apply soley to GRB.
B. Whether ZSU-23/37 should be r6, and M163 r5 is not up for debate. Don’t try to start an argument about it.
C. Common sense.
