You heard it here first. MSFS is receiving Air to Air combat and it looks absolutely stunning. The end of Warthunder? Probably not but maybe. Gaijin needs to step up their game, quite literally and they need to do it fast. Reduce grind, new and improved game modes, bigger maps (MSFS) has the entire planet, improved graphics, more realistic capabilities, interactive cockpits (MFD’s) for sim. These are just a few things I would wish for.
Warthunder is 14 years ahead, but we will see.
dcs exists for over a decade
MSFS Combat will be more of a competition for existing Sim titles like DCS and IL-2.
What Air Sim should be good at is something more player friendly. Less requirement for detailed knowledge but plenty of immersion nonetheless.
This is however an area of the market that the devs just dont care about and have abandoned totally. Air Sim could be a lite version of DCS and could have been for the past decade. Its not.
I remember when MS Combat Flight Sim came out. I was in a tech role in a franchise at the time and that was a good thing when they had that installed on their PCs. ‘I’M TESTING IT STILL!’
looking at the video, it seems it is entirely from a third party making an officially licensed add on with A/A. This might mean that it is glorified “target is there, so make missile go there and create fireball” just for cinematics, with little to no real simulation of weapon capabilities.
Calling it competition is a gross overstatement, War Thunder has extraordinarily advanced capabilities as far as combat goes, I mean you can literally simulate an AGM-65 Maverick hitting a Tiger 1’s copula, I don’t know of any other game that can do that. Esspecially with flight controls, where War Thunder has a control system you can learn the basics of in ~30 minutes, MSFS can require full setups, knowledge of buttons in the cockpit, and dozens of hours to master controls. And the physics difference is MASSIVE, in one, the amount of bullets you have remaining in your aircraft alters flight performance, and in the other, crashing a 747 face first into the ground just makes it bounce back into the air. Not only is that true, but one costs a base 60$, with in-app-purchases for any unique aircraft, and the other is free with in-app-purchases.
It is not even in the same ball park bruh, still no dynamic campaign or redfor
