About
Gaijin Entertainment
’s “Consistent Performance” in
War Thunder
To be fair, Gaijin has achieved a remarkable level of consistency in certain areas.
For example:
- New premium packs — consistently released
- New events — consistently frequent
- Store additions — consistently expanding
At the same time, the approach to long-standing technical issues is also extremely consistent:
Consistently not fixing them.
Let’s briefly revisit two classic features that have been around for quite a while.
Classic Feature #1: The VRAM “Performance Degradation” System
Most players probably know the routine by now:
- Launch the game — 100+ FPS
- A few matches later — 80 FPS
- After some more playtime — 40 FPS
- Eventually — 20 FPS and a slideshow experience
At this point you start wondering:
- Is my GPU dying?
- Did my drivers break?
- Is something wrong with my system?
Then you check your monitoring tools.
VRAM usage just keeps climbing.
The cutting-edge solution?
Close the game → reopen it.
Yes.
A modern solution for a modern game in 2026:
Restart the game periodically.
Perhaps the patch notes should just list it as a feature:
New mechanic: Battlefield Fatigue System
After several matches, the game gradually reduces FPS to remind players to take a break.
Very thoughtful design.
Classic Feature #2: Chinese Client + Custom Sound Mods = Radio Silence Mode
If you happen to use:
- The Chinese client
- Custom sound mods
Congratulations.
You unlock an immersive electronic warfare simulation :
All radio voice lines disappear.
Teammate callouts?
Gone.
AI voice prompts?
Gone.
Battlefield audio cues?
Also gone.
The battlefield suddenly becomes a perfectly silent environment.
What makes it even more interesting:
- The English client usually works fine
- Disabling custom sound mods restores the audio
Which suggests that:
This probably isn’t some unsolvable, universe-level technical problem.
And yet, the issue has survived through multiple update cycles.
Impressive resilience for a bug.
Of Course, These Things Might Not Be That Important
Because the truly important priorities are clearly:
- New premium vehicles
- New Golden Eagle content
- New events
- More additions to the store
Optimization and long-standing bugs?
Well…
Players can just restart the game.
One Small Suggestion
If these issues aren’t going to be fixed anytime soon, maybe they could simply be listed as official gameplay features:
War Thunder Core Gameplay Features
- Dynamic FPS degradation system
- Radio silence battlefield mode
- Scheduled client restart gameplay loop
At least that way everyone’s expectations would be aligned.
