War Thunder is Going to die in 2-4 Years

There were something like 32 production variants of the Spitfire, nothing else ever came close to that… So, we have not collected them all… yet :P

So, there are potentially millions of different variants of Aircraft, Tanks and Ships… as for Ships there can be early and late configurations during their life too

But, also there are untold number of field modifications that could be added to Aircraft, Tanks and Ships too, to help keep things interesting

Maps and game modes as some others have been talking about too

Technology is currently going… crazy… so there are untold ways War Thunder can go in the Future…

Yep. Heck, we don’t even have at least one of each (era-relevant) ship class in Naval yet, let alone sister ships, and then down to refits.

We’ve complained about top tier for a literal decade

sure there are ups and downs and the snail is a littlzw slow with accepting critique but it’s always been that way

I was there 5000 years ago when we complained just as much about the addition of AAMs and it’s implementation, Super sonics was just as much of a controversy

they even had a Hard BR stop at 9.7 to exclude all Phantoms, Fishbeds and alike from the matching with the planes below them

remember when we declared the end of Air RB after they added Sparrows and the old tactic of flying high and fighting below was no longer feasible

When I joined I think the Mig 21 was the top tier German plane.I kind of got the feeling that this was certainly a work in progress and not a finished product.I know it all takes time in fairness to Gaijin and the devs.

I do feel they have a baffling sense of priority though.

War Thunder won’t die any time soon but it massively needs a refresh and an injection of immersion. Bring back historical battles (Stalingrad, Battle of Britain, Battle of the bulge etc) with historical line-ups. Make the game more visceral graphically like it used to be. Give me my oil splattered windscreen again, aircraft vibrations from prop wash, freaking rain splatters when flying through the clouds (why on earth did you get rid of this?) and cockpit damage! Why don’t we have cockpit damage any more?

Give us more special events like you used to, the bomber escort missions were excellent (one team flying bombers/P-51’s and the other Me-262’s). There were always full games and my god it even instilled a sense of teamwork.

Open mics while you’re at it too with the ability to mute. We had this back in Birds of Steel and Birds of Prey so why don’t we have it now?

For once give us an update that actually improves the game with no more effort on vehicles until it’s done. Fix your broken flight models such as the practically unstallable P-51’s and FW-190A’s which are far too stable or revert them back to their older forms when they actually flew correctly. Stop implementing new shiny cockpits if the gauges don’t work properly and fix the ones you’ve broken (the 109’s fuel gauge always reads 0 for instance…) and fix your darn bugs. In Sim the “airfield defenders” still crash on the airfields and remain there flopping on the ground for the entire match. This has been the case for years now and not only is it immersion breaking but it’s straight up depressing.

Also for Sim give us the open cockpit aircraft sounds for the closed cockpit sounds… just mute them a little more when the cockpit is closed. The external sounds are superb… the closed cockpit sounds are hilariously bad. The P-51 and Yak engines sound like an asthmatic breathing through a straw, it may sound silly but things like this make the game boring to play, and also confusing… because once again you had vastly superior sounds in the past that you’ve “upgraded” to these terrible ones.

Sorry for the long post. But seriously… no more vehicles, no more nations… work on fixing the game and introducing new game modes.

War Thunder is Going to die in 2-4 Years

That’s quite optimistic prediction. The charts for the past few months look pretty bad and if they refuse to improve their game modes (ie implementing ARBEC), this trend will continue.

Mind you, I don’t wish this game to fail. I have spent waaay too much money and time for it to fail now. So my only hope is they will invest some of the money into game mode development.

War Thunder 2:

Ground Forces Changes:

  • Added amor hardness and face hardened armor. Armor performance depends on shell type and overmatch
  • Updated armor penetration calculator, to match historical performance of shells and shell types.
  • Internal damage can no longer be repaired by the tank crew, with the exception of optics, which now affects gameplay
  • If the vehicle is no longer fit to fight or catches fire, the crew will abandon the vehicle. Wrecks can be salvaged or destroyed by the enemy team.
  • No limit of re-spawning vehicles (maybe cooldown). Ticket loss depends on the players score. Low scoring player have less effect on the outcome of the battle then high scoring players, improving team balance.
  • Crew points are removed. Instead crew gain experience in battle, which improves their performance. (The experience is reset after each battle or maybe each day)
  • Due to tanks being easier to destroy due to lack of repairs, vehicle performance is greatly dependant on armor penetration, rather than killing power and survivability outside of armor. Which has the effect of more realistic historical match ups.
  • BRs are replaced with BR ranges. The efficency of the vehicle changes rewards earned during battles. (Pz IV in 1943 ok vs. Pz IV in 1945 outclassed)
  • Bomb timer depends on bomb size, with an assault type of fuze. (50kg → 3s, 500kg 10s) to prevent bombs from ever damaging the own aircraft, how it would be done in RL.
  • More interactive game modes with the addition of AI units, like supply trucks, and secondary objectives.

I wanted to write about some general changes and air battle but it’s getting late 🥱

Sad true.

What do you mean exactly?

Removal of YaK-141/chaffflare from F-5C, MiG-23s/etc and balance by years, like MiG-21Bis 1981 and F-14A(early) 1977

Not sure this is a good idea. It sure is more realistic in most cases (not even all), but it would lead War Thunder to become a game where all that matters is being the first one to shoot and hit.

It would become similar to those FPS games that overly rely on reflexes and reaction times, instead of a game where you need to thoughtfully and carefully aim.

People have been used to repairs since 2014. Can you imagine how extremely frustrating it would be if every breech/barrel shot now knocked you out permanently every time, with how common those are? Or your engine? Etc.

I, too, like a good realistic approach in some ways- but I think this is way too much and would be detrimental to the gameplay experience.

How is that bad?

It’s not only about shooting first but also about hitting armor that you can penetrate.

At the moment there’s this rather annoying balance where you can play a slow tank that will certainly kill a target when it sets it’s gun on target and very mobile vehicles that are incapable of taking out a vehicle from a favourable position and getting the kill denied or killed before they even can destroy a target because they would need several hits.

That’s honestly rather frustrating, when mobility doesn’t pay off since you are not able to deal the damage that you need.

Of course there are exceptions and those vehicles are pretty much the best in the game, when the vehicle is highly mobile and also is able to kill whatever target in a single shot.
Same with vehicle that have insane survivability.

This is still a game about Pz IV vs. T-34s and Leopards 2 vs. T-80s.
It wouldn’t change a thing except to make armor penetrations count.

It’s also funny that you mention FPS games because that’s already the meta by having super small unrealistic battle grounds where you can easily hit enemy weakspots, like sniping cupolas with APHE from 100m.

Tank warefare is about sniping, ambushing and positioning. Fast vehicle appearing where you wouldn’t expect them and heavy armor breaking through defensive lines.

Aggresive vehicles vs. vehicles built for defense, or just your multirole medium and MBTs.
Not to mention a whole array of vehicles for other tasks.

The current game modes are also very stale, not making use of all vehicles designed features.
CAS is just your unlockable mini-nuke that may be fun but is overall very frustrating for players on the ground. Instead of dealing a blow to the enemies resources all you do is destroy vehicles and capture points, promoting spawn camping and revenge CAS.

Elements like ammo capacity play almost never a role, since you mainly firing AP rounds against armored targets and vehicles designed to blow appart obstacles are pointless since they simply don’t exist in the game.

Basically we can just put air and ground battles into the same game 🙃

Barrels and tracks should stay repairable. We just imagine some invisible ground crew fixing up the vehicle.
For internal damage, there’s simply no need. If the tank gets penetrated, it most likely will have taken sever damage that makes it inopperatable.
Gaijin adding more modules that can get destroyed just turns the game into a repair simulator anyway.
There’s already a game for that ;)

The engine is a very delicate thing. It’s the engine that turns an anti-tank gun into a moving pillbox.
It’s either in the back, because that’s the least likely place to get shot, or it’s in the front to serve as extra armor to protect the crew.

So if your engine gets destroyed, you obviously were already in a bad position.
How often does your engine get destroyed and your tank should have survived?

Every tank gets fire extinguishers for engine fires or any fuel tank fire. Which obviously wasn’t the case of every vehicle and no crew in the world would sit inside a burning tank and try to extuingish a fuel tank fire while being shot at.

Good riddance.

One good alternative and I’m pretty sure the games numbers will plummet

A good competetion never hurt anyone. Well probably a bit financially.
But certainly better for the players :3

Level does not dictate how good/bad someone is, it’s an indicator for how long someone has been playing the game. You can assume that a level 25 is much newer to the game than a level 80, and thus likely more inexperienced, but that’s about it.
Frankly Gaijin should just do away with the level, it serves no purpose others than to spawn posts like this.

The pinnacle of the game isn’t TOP TIER, it is what you prefer to play. Top tier is just top tier, those who prefer modern combat, versus cold war or world war II combat, and you are right, modern combat is harder to balance than others because of the more sophisticated weaponry. Top tier is nowhere close to balanced and it’s quite bad when you look at it, but people can still have fun with it, or essentially move down and play something more balanced.

Also we’ve been hearing WT will die soon since they introduced ground vehicles to the game. The game will change, bugs will get fixed, new bugs introduced, features added, it will continue its marry path.

If they don’t get rid of those FECKIN UPTIERS anytime soon, then I opt for 2 years or sooner.

The only thing that indicates that the game may run out of steam soon is the forum itself and that hatred for the new systems coming in. The top tier ODL and the map changes.

My own input into this situation;

War Thunder will live on but it’ll plateau at some point. Sure TOGs (the old gang; the original players) will leave mostly because of boredom or simply they’ve got something else to do but there’s always the
newer generation to replace them.

Sure, there’s a bunch of gamemodes you could consider dead like naval (bluewater is overrun by FKs and Moffetts; don’t get me started on coastal) even though I have high hopes for French coastal (which should resuscitate coastal) but otherwise WT’s simply going to grow and grow.

To a degree but what is replacing them does not seem to be to anybody’s liking ,especially top tier.It seems that so much has changed socially even in 12 years and many new players are too entitled to suffer the “Hardships” of the game.
