PvP includes objective and map control. In Insurgency, you win by taking objectives. In Dota and League, you win by taking objectives - killing enemy exists to gain an advantage that helps to take objectives.
PVP: short for player versus player. The game is PVP-focused, which means PVP is the primary part, everything else is secondary and was intended to be added at a later time. It was not part of the core part of the stage.
By this logic, attacking the ancient/towers in Dota is pve and not the game’s focus.
Planting the bomb in CS is pve and not the game’s focus.
Spoiler
Air Sim EC, ~1:30 hour of Tier 4 flying doing purely the Air superiority objectives. I tried to dogfight, but I’m not good enough to reverse in sim. Actual activity might just be ~1 hour since air superiority objectives only started showing up half an hour in. Enemy team had more player kills, my team got more air superiority, bomber/strike/survey plane kills and skirmish wins and won - confirming the wiki’s claims that objectives contribute more than raw kills. Now, those objectives require PvP (air superiority, skirmishes especially) but the point stands.
The game doesn’t want you to do objectives, right?
I had a very good match in the Q-5L (I believe that was the variant). I won purely by bombing targets and avoiding missiles, when the match was ending, it was me vs 3 other fighters slinging missiles and trying to shoot me down. Playing the objectives can absolutely help and I don’t know why people say it doesn’t
Also, some objectives are PvE, like attacking AI controlled ground targets or water targets in Air RB. Just like bombing bases in air RB, you still have to deal with fighters trying to intercept you.
Capture objectives (like capturing a point in ground) are PvP however.
You have not stated anything that goes against my point you stated the developers have programmed win conditions which don’t immediately revolve around kills. This is a true statement. It is an inconsistency in their game design which is why I stated it as such.
Just because the target you’re attacking is not a player, does not make it PvE.
Again: Is attacking a tower/nexus/ancient in Dota/league PvE? Hell no.
It’s still PvP, you fight over the objective with other players. You fight with them to gain control/space over the objective.
The Nature’s Prophet/Tinker teleporting behind enemy lines to rat/push a lane, forcing the enemy to disengage and defend or give up map control is very much engaging in PvP.
PvE is when there’s no players around to fight for space or control.
PvP includes objectives. Without objectives, it’s team deathmatch. With objectives, it’s whatever best describes the objectives at play.
