One of my favorite maps in War Thunder just got an incredible overhaul, and I truly appreciate how it feels both fresh and immersive while still keeping the charm that made it a favorite in the first place.

Gaijin on its way to butcher my fav maps again. Every map they reworked became worse. Like Abandoned Factory.

Can I see what Poland will look like in Winter in the new visual improvement?

Now THAT would cause framerate to plummet.

We may suffer with poor map design but at least we look good while suffering

War Thunder do have this feature, at least the bare bones of it. In Alaska map and some other urban maps you can destroy the buildings.

In Alaska if you sneeze near to a building all the windows is broken and you can see the interior of the building. I wouldn’t mind if this was applied to every buildings, I really don’t bother of not having the destruction proccess and physics applied just to see a 100 year old bathroom.

The issue is that if you want the broken objects to have physics against tank rounds it’ll cause a huge performance drop.

And I don’t want it. Plus considering the performance issue in this jurassic old game engine, Dagor, it would cause some other issues to gameplay, just like glue applied to trees when you smash one down, it just stick to the vehicle way too often.

Though this could help the player in some scenarios like creating a distraction or more paths, however those are situational and still work without all the physics applied, again Alaska is a example — you can destroy smaller buildings to create path to another part of the map which without this feature would require go all around to get wherever you want.

A single FAB-5000 gonna nuke everyone’s PCs, including the pilot’s

Dagor is fine, but even Battlefield 6’s system requirements are harsh because it’s bringing back high level destruction, and it’s still simplified for infantry combat.

We have purely visual destruction where it matters IMO.

I paid for my whole CPU and I want to use my whole CPU >:C
Also nukes destroy every single building and tree on the map and performance doesnt die so…

Likely very minor if they handle it like they currently are trees (have physics for a limited time and then de-spawn). So mechanically only the buildings physical model and visual model changes.

i dont know if i can cope with poland taking on its first major change since tanks released

At least Battlefield 6 brought this to another new level, a game that was under publicly known development for about a year could achieve this, now a game that’s a decade and a bit old couldn’t, I think the issue here is clear: Dagor. Physics does exist but trees fail to respect law of physics some times flying or the friction is so stupid causing it to glue to surfaces.

Although you can use a old game engine but you have at least to push this to better standards, if War Thunder wasn’t sold as a realistic vehicle combat game, I wouldn’t mind because Dagor still works, somehow to be honest. Hopefully, at some point soon, most destructible models have an overhaul, just like Alaska’s buildings having all its windows destroyed by a breeze.

It is always nice to see work being done on maps although I am sad the “og” maps that we played on since the start are being changed. I am not a fan of new Abandoned factory nor Advance on Rhine, they are worse imo. It could be just a “minor” work which does not affect the gameplay as much.

Just please do not make them laggy like Advance on Rhine and Abandoned factory. Normally I can reach 100-120 FPS on other maps while those two can drop down to 40s…

I would rather keep them the way they are now if performance takes a 60% hit…

But I will wait and see when available.
