I’ve already seen a couple of bug reports that are similar to this, and have made a few of my own, however I want to catalogue the accurate HUD itself as theirs limited examples of its actual presentation.
For context here is what the Viggen’s hud looks like currently:
While the snail has added some accurate things the introduction of the EEGS has turned the HUD into made-up territory (kinda).
The largest problem is the fact that your current radar target is not shown on the HUD. This is pretty detrimental for SIM players and has been missing from Viggen since launch.
Here’s what the HUD should like with a target locked:
Now, the quality is bit borked here, but I’m pretty sure about a few things judging by info from the manual and some other parts in this video.
There’s a circle around the target and there’s some stuff below the target. The circle is self explanatory but the bottom one I believe is a distance indicator. In the publicly available JA37C manual, there’s info on the distance scale.
It’s only shown as something for takeoff and landing, however the small bit at the bottom mentions that it has other functions that are in volume 3 of the manual, which is currently classified to my knowledge. Since Volume 3 outlines combat equipment and details on engaging targets, I’m pretty certain this is a distance scale to the target, showing the distance in meters below, it also displays the selected weapon, showing a 74 with a sidewinder lock tone able to be heard in the background.
In the next shot the pilot seems to switch to his gun with a different HUD element popping up.
This is what the EEGS actually looks like. The range has moved down, and the reticle displays where the pilot should aim, and once he moves the reticle over the target, he states “this one is defeated”.
It really sucks that we still don’t have a radar target indicator on the HUD, even after almost 3 years, but the other inaccuracies don’t help either.
Here’s the video I found as well as the manual,
If you guys can find any more documentation on any of the Viggen’s HUDs it would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
