VBCI Philoctetes (late): The VBCI & Jaguar crossover

I feel that this should be added to Israel now that Greece is a subtree for them

They did not bought it, this mean the country that made it should get it, that is how it works, and there are multiple version.

That is not nessecarily how that works, The Philoctetes is a variant specifically meant for the Greek army and it is a joint develpoment between KNDS France and METLEN so it should go to the Greeks.

Considering facilities are being built in Greece to produce the vehicles i think it is also safe to say they very much intend to purchase the vehicles.

The KNDS website also litterally calls the Philoctetes the greek variant of the VBCI RT40.

The RCT40 variant is not the same as the one in this suggestion. All VBCI appart from the RCT40 are not crewless. The RCT40, which externally is almost identical to the Jaguar turret, is only a very recent (eurosatory 2026) demonstrator.

KNDS has updated lots of their “philoctete” brochures to this new demonstrator visually, but the VBCI that greece tested are still of this suggestion’s type (at least, officially…)

Imo, as long as neither country actually plan to buy/operate any variant of the 40mm equipped VBCI, they could go either way.

IMO, this suggestion’s philoctete could go to only Greece and not be an issue for France since it’s similar to the jaguar, while both countries could receive the updated RCT40 as the crewless turret would bring significant difference to both countries

It was trialed and also a Greek company is active on the vehicle, and after all they didnt name it Philoctetes over nothing

? Same answer to what you are answering to, trial only was good enough only in few cases for tt that didn’t had much potential vehicles and is pretty much no longer used.

Honestly, i still don’t get the argument of a greek company worked on it so it changes everything, it’s mostly KNDS IP period.

Considering France can still get the VBCI mk2, Panhard Sphinx 40, Panhard Sphinx, and other CTA platforms like Warrior Toutatis and the VAB testbed, I don’t see a reason why, unlike with some other French turret/weapon systems, France would some how be losing out if it only went to Greece

Additionally it would give the Greek subtree another way to provide value to Israeli in a niche that domestic Israeli designs cannot currently fill, which I think is necesssaet role for subtrees to perform

I do think the discussion might be different if the Philocetes was a Greco-French project meant for export to third party nations which never garnered sales, then it should go to both, but this was specifically for Greece and France already has domestic analogues

doesn’t it also has multiple variants with different turrets? what the issue of Greece getting the one that meant for Greece? I believe in 2026 was an even better one in a Qatari exhibition

There is no problem, thats my point

Honestly, i don’t get this whole conversation, the rules are the rules, and would make it so currently that no VBCI would end up in Greek sub tree until Greece buy it, that is all, that there is lot of configuration of VBCI and stuff is not my problem, feelings against rules won’t change anything at the end of the day.

Specifically The VBCI RTC40 (which is the latest variant, not the one in this thread) is the only CTA platform using the crewless turret. All other 40mm presented before are using the manned turret.

Greece also hasn’t bought the thing. It’s more so a KNDS + CTAI venture as of now, with Greece having tested the first philoctete (which is the one above in this thread). Considering past Gaijin’s move, this first variant could be added to either or both, but the second variant (using the RCTA40 turret), has not been tested by Greece yet, so it’s more similar to the Mirage 4000 for example, which was built for export to specific countries, not bought, and thus ended in its domestic country.

Repeating my first point, France doesn’t have equivalent to the latest variant of the VBCI 40mm

Then in that case, for better or for worse, France has often had to wait for other nations to get vehicles in order for France to get them (DF-105, SK-105 [read as FL-12/FL-15], Crotale, EMBT, Clovis) and maybe Greece receiving it may increase the chance that France gets it

As I said above, Greece hasn’t trialed neither officially shown interest in this variant. KNDS is simply marketing the vehicle for export as of now, and no countries has currently shown interest in the RCT40 variant. Why then should they get it ?
Also, trying to justify adding a French vehicle by first adding it to other countries is just a stupid take.

Edit, and just for a quick tour

Gaijin themselves admitted that the way the DF105 addition to France was done was incorrect and that they’ll fix their way of adding such vehicles in the future, so it’s irrelevant in this case.
The SK105 was added to both nations for a similar reason.
All the other projects are clearly Franco-German cooperation and thus adding them simultaneously made sense.
The VBCI is a Franco-French venture and Greece has no involvement in the development of the vehicle aside from maybe forking some money to buy it. Thus, under the rule of the Mi28 addition to Sweden, they might be able to get vehicles that they tested, but not of those that they didn’t

Greece had tested it and that’s enough for Gaijin to add it in the Greek sub tree

That is NOT it, it was the case before for rare example especially Sweden, it is no longer done now.

Pakistani T-84 this year (or 2025 i dont remember)

i would very much want to see this (or a similar VBCI-2) added to france, after the Vextra.

i question why isreal should get it, given they have the Eitan. but i do not mind greece also getting this.
