User skins being visible to all

I see 0 issues with swastikas on planes and tonks. Of course in some countries swiastika causes some unexplained pain in the rear, but it’s their own problem, not everyone else’s. However, it would take more effort than fixing:

  • MG151/20 M-geschoss passing clean throigh soviet fighters
  • lack of tracers in MG131 HEIT belt
  • no damage from He-112 A0 HEFI round.

First one has been in game for years.
The rest have been in the game for months (Gaijin broke these weapons with one of their patches, it has been reported during dev server). And this is the amount of cares given by Gaijin and this is how much effort they are willing to make to make player experience better - around 0.
Player skins would mean high effort, and WT is generally a low effort environment.

If its on ww2 tanks then obviously not. But once it will start appearing on modern tanks it will raise some eyebrows. Also, there is legislation in some countries forbidding it. And Gaijin dont want to end up in some kind of news article as “Game with swastikas everywhere”. And this is just swastika. Trolls will place high resolution penises and other stuff on their tanks. Also, political slogans or pictures, which are not allowed by rules of game.

You can go through hundreds of skins every day to check if they are all correct but I doubt Gaijin will pay you.

I will ignore rest of the post since im not your shoulder to cry on.

All it takes is very basic verification and allowing skins from only 1 source. There is maybe 1000 of skins that work with current iteration of the game

all togerher. That’s a few hours of clicking through. People will happily do that for some platinum chickens or some super rare vehicle (Panther II f.e.) which costs Gaijin literally nothing.

Even if people started making a lot more skins that’s still maybe 15 to verify daily. That’s literally 6m of work assuming you are slowly siping coffee in the process.

I’d like it to stay optional but could gaijin at least have see all skins camos , enabled by default? Make the option to turn it off easier to navigate as well, most don’t know it exists

I like this idea, for those who don’t like skins it wouldn’t change a thing, though it would suit perfectly for those who just want to see some goofy paints, i don’t get why they don’t just add this if players could choose between them

Because it can easily be abused, faster than anyone can report it… Just think of how often people don’t report players, and then think about the idea that a vehicle with objective material on it, would be able to be in many matches, seen by many, and be objective before being actually acted upon.

User skins should be opt-in, I don’t see why this is a bad thing besides the usual troll here and there.

oh no thanks, i have set historically. but some nonsense is still displayed. i always get a puke irritation when i see a red tank driving next to me.
the pumpkins and garden gnomes are already shitty enough …

seems its already in game or something i come across another player today and he had a pink camo skin with jaws etc that i could see really confused me

It was passed for consideration some time ago, and ultimately rejected if I remember correctly.

It’s a market, and Gaijin wants to take profit out of it. What’d the point of buying skins be if everyone could just download and use the skin with the same effect?

I’d love to see it, of course, I’d love for the customization system to be overhauled, I’d love to bring life to my war machines without the need to spend any money, but it’s their game, and sadly they’ve chosen their current way.

Gaijin would not allow SS decorated tanks or the Swastika to be seen. Under some European laws it would be illegal. It is best if players decorate their vehicles for only themselves.

I believe EU laws regarding swastikas and nazi symbology are no longer in effect for historical videogames, if I remember correctly.

No they are. You or Gaijin will get done under whatever law they can dredge up whether it’s loose hate speech or defamation.

I 100% agree and would also love to see other’s user-made skins, but i would make one slight adjustment: make an ingame workshop for them similar to the one in forza games. Other than that i wouldn’t change anything else except adding the ability to choose the GE price for your own skins.

Btw this would also make regulating and reporting them way easier.

I don’t see any big problems with anime

It’s just the vulgar stuff yeah

People have SS Tanks etc etc which others may find offensive

You should be able to choose if you like to see other skins or not. If people turn option on and be offended, it’s their own fault. I dont get the point. if you dont like it just set to historical only or turn on hello kitty mode idk.
It is a War game, what would i expect, if not offensive stuff…
Well I’m overacting a little bit here, but im sure you get my point.
I’d love so see more custom stuff in Arcade, not in simulator tho ^^

What would be very easy, and what I would personally like: just a quick check at the start of each match to see if anyone’s using a user skin. If yes, check the file name of that user skin and compare it to the file names of user skins that you have downloaded. If you have it downloaded then display it on their vehicle! simple as that!

It would allow for you and your friends to enjoy each others skins, and potentially encounter other players who use similar skins to you.

Though the feasibility of it is up in the air given Gaijin’s spaghetti code, but really, how hard could it be?

Personally I don’t mind SS tanks in battle or care about the War in Ukraine or Israel but silly hello kitty tanks would drive me mad and how would you separate them ?

You wouldn’t. It would be all or nothing.I think War Thunder took the best and most sensible option here .They could have been a real nanny state and removed the option completely. They didn’t.
If you want Swastikas and Zs etc then go for it in private and you offend nobody else.Good call from Gaijin.
